MS Dhoni has been on a sabbatical since the 2019 World Cup. While there have been a lot of talks about his immediate future, India spinner Kuldeep Yadav feels the veteran cricketer’s presence would make the side stronger.
On Thursday, Kuldeep Yadav took part in an Instagram Live session with Sportskeeda and expressed his opinion on Dhoni, the impactful cricketer. The sight of the former skipper instructing the bowlers ahead of delivery is quite familiar to fans. On numerous occasions, Dhoni’s street smartness has helped bowlers pick prized possessions.
Apart from contributing with the bat and steady glovework, Dhoni’s addition has helped India in a crunch situation. The left-arm spinner lauded the experience that Dhoni brings to the table. Previously, under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won multiple ICC events including the 2011 World Cup.
“I am of course missing MS Dhoni. Whenever you play with a senior player, you become fond of them and start missing them and their presence. As far as his retirement is concerned, it is MS Dhoni’s decision and it should be left to him. There is no point for us to debate on that. He is very fit and I personally feel he should play for India. As a fan, I absolutely love him. If he plays, it would be easier for us [India],” Kuldeep quipped.
Dhoni hasn’t made himself available since India’s unceremonious exit from the marquee event. He took part in Chennai Super Kings’ practice session earlier in March ahead of the start of the IPL. However, with the IPL postponed indefinitely, Dhoni’s future looks uncertain.
The cash-rich tournament would have been the ideal platform for Dhoni to audition for the World T20 which is supposed to take place later this year. India head coach Ravi Shastri had earlier stated that Dhoni’s form in the T20 competition could help the cricketer pave his way back into the limited-overs team.
