Former Australian cricketer Mike Hussey has said that MS Dhoni and Ricky Ponting have similar qualities as a leader because of which they are the most successful captains of the world.
Dhoni and Ponting are successful captains and players. The former Indian captain has led India to lift three ICC Trophies–2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions trophy. On the other hand, Ponting has been lifted three-time the World Cup trophies while two-time being as a captain. Under Ponting’s captaincy, Australia also won two ICC Champions Trophies.
MS Dhoni will not take on defeat for too long: Mike Hussey
Hussey said that both Dhoni and Ponting didn’t get emotionally driven by the defeat. They have the abilities to handle the pressure and inspire the teammates, according to the former Australian cricketer.
“One of his great abilities is he will not take on defeat for too long. Yes, he will be disappointed like everyone, but he will get over quickly and look over to the next match and that is a great trait to have,” Hussey said in a videocast hosted by ESPNCricinfo.
“Ricky Ponting was similar too, whether he was going well or going poorly. A consistent character and not someone like a yo-yo, going up and down, riding emotions all the time. He would be level the whole time, a trait you notice in great players,” he added.
Well, Mike Hussey has played under both the captains. Ponting has been the captain of the Australian team. Whereas he has played with captain Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from 2008 to 2013. Dhoni was going to feature in IPL 2020 but because of the pandemic, the league has been postponed. He hasn’t played a match after the dishearting World Cup 2019 semi-final. So, the IPL 2020 will play a major part in Dhoni’s comeback in the national team and his participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020.
