The former Indian World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni hasn’t played a game in almost the last ten months. Recently, some of his former teammates have opened up that it is unlikely that Dhoni will return to the national team.

The 38-year-old MS Dhoni played the game for the last time during the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand on 10th July 2019. Since then, he has always made himself unavailable for the national team selection and also hasn’t played any professional cricket match.

Dhoni was aiming to return to the game during the IPL 2020, which was initially scheduled to begin on 29th March 2020. However, the beginning of this tournament has been postponed for the indefinite period due to the novel COVID-19 or coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Dhoni hasn’t clarified yet about his future in international cricket. However, according to a recent Sportskeeda report, some of his former teammates have recently opened up their feeling on the chance of Dhoni’s return to the national team as they believe that Dhoni is not eyeing to return to the Indian team. A former teammate believes that Dhoni can announce his future in the game after the IPL 2021.

The teammate said, “He will take a call probably after the next year IPL on how to go about things in the T20 league.”

MS Dhoni doesn’t want to block their chances

Another teammate feels that Dhoni has no motivation left to play for the Indian team again. The former captain doesn’t want to block the youngsters’ opportunities.

The teammate claimed, “Now there is no motivation to play anymore. When there are people he feels who can replace him, he doesn’t want to block their chances.”

Another Indian cricketer, who previously played with Dhoni, also had the same view on the wicket-keeper batsman’s international future.

He added, “When there is nothing to prove, where is the question of playing IPL to get into the Indian team.”

On the other hand, a close source of Dhoni has recently told according to the Sportskeeda that the former Indian captain can still demand a farewell game, but he doesn’t want to disturb the present Indian team.

After making an international debut in December 2004, MS Dhoni has successfully played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is.
