Want to be a professional cricketer?
Due to the non-clarification of the future of MS Dhoni’s international career, there is massive speculation about his retirement from international cricket. However, the former England captain Nasser Hussain believes that Dhoni can still serve India in the best way. After his ODI debut in 2004, MS Dhoni has represented the national team successfully for a very long time. In the international career, Dhoni becomes famous for the multiple roles where he has achieved huge success.
Besides, Dhoni has impressed as a brilliant batsman along with impressive finishing style, a smart wicketkeeper, a relaxed and calm leader etc.
Under his captaincy, India achieved massive success in international cricket, including winning the ICC World T20 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013 etc. Even after stepping down from the captaincy role, Dhoni has always guided the young team by using his experiences in the crucial periods.
Since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 semi-final in last July, Dhoni hasn’t played a cricket match yet as he continuously made himself unavailable for the national team service. There is also no clarification whether he will return to the national team or not. The cricket world only knows that he is ready to lead the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League or IPL 2020.
While there is strong speculation on Dhoni’s retirement from the international cricket, Nasser Hussain believes that Dhoni is still an important member of the Indian team.
Hussain said on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected, “Is Dhoni still good enough to get into the Indian side? It is as simple as that. That should apply for anyone across the board. What I have seen of Dhoni, I still think he has a huge amount to offer to Indian cricket. Yes, there have been one or two occasions where he has got it wrong in run chases, like that World Cup game against England. But in general, Dhoni is still a really good talent.”
Don’t push MS Dhoni into retirement early: Nasser Hussain
Hussain has also reminded everyone that Dhoni is a legendary cricketer who comes once in a generation. The former English captain has requested everyone to don’t push Dhoni into early retirement as the country’s cricket will miss him forever after his retirement.
Hussain added, “And be careful what you wish for because once Dhoni is gone, there is no getting him back. There are some legends of the game who are once in a generation cricketers, don’t push him into retirement early. Only Dhoni knows his mental state and in the end selectors select.”
Some believe that Dhoni will open up his international cricket future after the IPL 2020 tournament, which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed amid coronavirus outbreak.
