Pakistan Super League 2020, PSL 2020, empty stadium, PSL

The coronavirus pandemic has triggered sporting events across the globe. The infection has spread worldwide, which has led cricketing boards to take some major steps to prevent the spread of the virus. On Thursday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proclaimed that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches would be played in front of empty stadiums in Karachi from Friday.

So far, in PSL, eight matches are still left to be played, including the final which will be played on 22nd March (Sunday). The matches left to be played are scheduled either in Lahore or in Karachi.

According to PTI, the majority number of positive COVID 19 cases have been recorded in Karachi, and the Sindh province with the total cases in Pakistan rises to 24 as on Thursday.

“The precautionary decision has been made to better protect the health and safety of the spectators, players, officials, and media.”

“The decision will not impact accredited commercial partners, media and other service providers, who will be allowed to enter the National Stadium. In addition, immediate families of the competing players and player support personnel, as well as franchise owners, will be allowed to attend matches.”

For the first time in PSL history, the entire league is being played in Pakistan. So, the decision might cost the board.

The IPL 2020 is set to start from 29th March with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings playing the first match. However, after the Board meeting on 14th March, the fans will be clearly informed about the subject.
