Watch: Sam Billings Manages MS Dhoni-Like Run-Out That Becomes Ultimate Winning Point For His Team
On Sunday (10th November), we saw a thrilling T20I series decider between England and New Zealand at Auckland. During that game, English wicketkeeper Sam Billings managed to showcase a brilliant MS Dhoni-like run-out which became their ultimate winning point of the game.
Due to the early rain-interruption, that T20I match was cut short to the 11-overs game. Starting this fifth and final T20I of the series by 2-2 margin, England decided to field first after winning the toss.
The hosts New Zealand set the target of massive 147 runs in 11 overs after putting the score of 146/5 (11 overs). Both the openers Martin Guptill (50 off 20 balls) and Colin Munro (46 off 21 balls) provided the firing start and the wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Seifert played a blistering knock of 39 runs in just 16 balls.
Sam Billings successfully imitated MS Dhoni on the final ball of New Zealand innings
On the final ball of that innings, Sam Billings brilliantly ran-out the Kiwi batsman Ross Taylor (3). After pushing the ball to the deep square leg, Taylor ran for two on that ball. Sam Curran took that ball and threw to the wicketkeeper Sam Billings. Though Billings grabbed that ball ahead of the stumps, he threw that ball in no-time to the behind to hit the stumps. It perfectly hit the stumps before Taylor reached the crease as the Kiwi cricketer was ran-out.
Former Indian captain and present Indian limited-overs wicketkeeper MS Dhoni is famous for successfully managing this kind of brilliant run-out. In his international career, Dhoni has managed similar kinds of run-outs many times.
Coming to this New Zealand vs England T20I, England secured the tie due to that run-out. Otherwise, England could lose this match by one run as they also managed to score 146/7 (20 overs).
Jonny Bairstow‘s brilliant 47 runs off 18 balls and some middle-order cameos helped England to tie the game. Chris Jordan scored 12 runs in the last three balls that helped England to level the scoreline.
In the Super Over, England managed to score 17/0 while New Zealand scored 8/1. Winning this game in the thrilling one-over eliminator, England won this T20I series by the 3-2 margin.
