Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq recently talked about the present spin bowlers where he also named the best spinners at the present moment.
Saqlain Mushtaq played for the Pakistan national cricket team from 1995 to 2004 where he took 208 wickets in 49 Tests and 288 wickets in 169 ODIs. Recently, in a YouTube video named Cricket Pakistan, Saqlain spoke about the present best spinners in international cricket.
The former Pakistan off-spinner praised the Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon. Saqlain feels Lyon is currently one of the best spinners, who has performed well in every country.
Saqlain said, “Right now, Nathan Lyon has been giving tremendous performances. He has performed against England, Pakistan, and even against India. As per his performances and strike rate, I think he is one of the best at the moment.”
Saqlain Mushtaq is also impressed with Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav
Then Saqlain named the veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The 43-year-old believes that he is the best spinner at the home venues. The former Pakistan spinner also named the Indian left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja.
He added, “Secondly, there is R Ashwin, who performs really good at home. He performs overseas as well, but there is no other bowler better than him in home conditions. Ravindra Jadeja in Test cricket is also good.”
Saqlain also likes the 25-year-old Indian left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav in the shorter format. He lauded about his cricketing skills and knowledge.
Saqlain told, “In shorter versions, Kuldeep Yadav from India is also very good. I really like him. He has a huge heart. I have spoken to him a few times. He comes across as really positive and educated, in terms of cricketing knowledge. He’s really good.”
Saqlain Mushtaq also praised some other spinners, including Pakistan spinners
Saqlain claimed, “Adil Rashid has also given good performances. Shakib al Hasan is also really intelligent. I have worked with Bangladesh Cricket Team. Shakib has a strong character, he is really courage, and he uses his brains. He is a clever bowler.”
Saqlain also talked about the Pakistan spinners. While he is happy to see the recent joining of the former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed as the spin-bowling coach of the Pakistan national cricket team, Saqlain feels that the 21-year-old leggie Shadab Khan can be an impactful bowler in the Test cricket.
Saqlain also praised the 34-year-old Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah who has already taken 213 wickets in 39 matches.
