Shane Warne Reveals The Best Indian Captain He Has Played Against
The legendary Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne has recently revealed his greatest Indian playing XI that he played as the opposition. During that team choice, the leg-spinner also told his favourite opposition Indian captain.
Shane Warne was one of the greatest leg-spinners in international cricket history. While he finished his international career (1992-2007) with 1,001 wickets, including the 708 Test wickets, he was the most Test wicket-taker at his retirement. At present, he is the second most wicket-taker in Test and international cricket.
However, Warne mostly struggled to perform strongly against India. In his international career, Warne picked up 58 wickets in 32 matches with an unimpressive bowling average of 49.53. That bowling average was worst for him against a team in the international career as his international career bowling average against any other team had below 30.
Talking about the Indian openers, Warne chose Virender Sehwag and Navjot Singh Sidhu. He felt that Sidhu was one of the best players against the spinners, and Warne also clarified that many other spinners agreed with him in this view.
Shane Warne chose Sourav Ganguly as his favourite opposition Indian captain
At next, Warne picked up three famous Indian leaders in his team – Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and Kapil Dev. However, he named Ganguly as the captain of his best Indian playing XI. Warne also revealed that VVS Laxman missed out that team due to the presence of his favourite Indian captain Ganguly.
While Nayan Mongia has been added for the wicketkeeper role, Warne chose two Indian spinners in that team. Those spinners were the off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and leg-spinner Anil Kumble. The fast-bowler Javagal Srinath was the last cricketer in this list.
