On Tuesday (20th October) evening, the 34-year-old Indian left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan became the fifth batsman to score 5000 IPL runs.
Shikhar Dhawan reached that feat during the 38th match of the IPL 2020, where his Delhi Capitals (DC) were playing against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai). Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer decided to bat first after winning the toss.
Before that match, Dhawan scored 4938 runs in 168 T20s. The left-handed batsman was 62 runs away to complete his 5000 IPL runs. In his 169th T20 match, where the left-handed opening batsman played his 168th T20 innings, Dhawan completed his 5000 IPL runs and became the fifth batsman to score 5000 IPL runs.
In this match, Dhawan scored a century as the left-handed batsman remained not out on 106 runs off 61 balls (12 fours and 3 sixes). At the end of that innings, Dhawan became the fourth most run-scorer in IPL history as he has scored 5044 IPL runs in 168 innings.
