Sourav Ganguly Sets High Standards For Virat Kohli-Led Team India

The newly elected President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly has already set the standards high for the Virat Kohli-led Indian team. The former India skipper wants the current team to win big tournaments to take things further.

On his return to Bengal after achieving such honours, Ganguly had to face more questions about the Indian team rather than on administration. Despite saying that the cricket administration in India is going through an emergency period, Sourav Ganguly is hopeful to fix things.

He also wants Virat Kohli to go one step further and win major tournaments with the ICC World T20 in line next year. India managed to reach the semifinals in the ICC World Cup 2019 in England earlier this year but lost to New Zealand in the semifinals.

Ganguly is hopeful that Virat Kohli can break the deadlock of not winning the last seven big competitions.

“India are a good team. The only issue (skipper) Virat Kohli needs to address is that we have not won the last seven major tournaments. But they play well in big tournaments, except the semifinals and the final. Hopefully, Virat can change it around. He is a champion player,” Ganguly said.

Furthermore, Sourav Ganguly also hailed Wriddhiman Saha, who has been brilliant on his return to the Indian in the ongoing Test series against South Africa. Saha has been grabbing the headlines for all the right reasons. However, Ganguly wants him to score runs with the bat to play more matches.

“There is no question on his wicketkeeping skills but he has to score runs if he has to play 100 matches. There is one more match in the South Africa series and he still has a chance to score a century,” he concluded.
