 About the bowler: Alfred Shaw was a right-arm medium bowler who had played 404 first-class matches including 7 Tests that had played for England. He had taken total 2,027 first-class wickets including 12 in the Test career.

He was one the members of the first-ever Test match between Australia and England at Melbourne in March 1877. Apart from that, he bowled the first ever Test delivery while he was also the first batsman to get stump dismissal.

 

The incident of two hat-tricks: In the match between Nottinghamshire and Gloucestershire at Nottingham in July-August 1884, Alfred Shaw had claimed the hat-trick in both innings. In that match, his first innings bowling figure was 8/29 while his second innings bowling figure was 6/36.

Nottinghamshire had won that match by ten wickets.
