There is No One Even Closer to Hardik Pandya’s Talent With Both Bat and Ball – Virender Sehwag
Former Team India explosive opener Virender Sehwag has made a massive statement during his interview with the CricketNext. The prominent face of India cricket Sehwag believes Pandya being a three-dimensional player bring a lot to the table. Pertinently, with 2019 World Cup fast-approaching Pandya’s performance would be altogether vital in the English conditions.
Besides, Pandya is the part of India’s 2019 World Cup squad.
Recently, the prolific all-rounder has made an impact in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While representing reigning champions Mumbai Indians (MI), Pandya has scored 402 runs apart from snaring 14 scalps.
Interestingly, coming to bat at lower down the order, Pandya’s cameos made a difference. He amassed runs at an average of 44.67 which further saw his strike-rate of 191.43.
Virender Sehwag heaps praise on Hardik Pandya:
The Delhi-based veteran cricketer Sehwag has effusively praised Pandya when it comes to his all-round role. He believes given to his role in the fielding too, Pandya sets himself apart from others.
Sehwag reiterated that on talentwise, no one seems to be close to Pandya. He stated if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would have found a player even closer to Pandya’s ability then it would have been an end of the road for the Baroda-based cricketer.
“There is no one even closer to Hardik Pandya’s talent with both bat and ball. If there was someone even closer to him, the three-dimensional players picked by BCCI, were even closer to him, Pandya would not have made it back into the team,” said Sehwag.
Earlier, Pandya has been in the news for all the wrong reason. However, his antics don’t seem to be slowing down, and he had shown that when Indians lift their fourth IPL title after thumping Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a mere run in the nail-biter on May 12 in Hyderabad.
The issue has blown been out of proportion: Virender Sehwag
Furthermore, Sehwag is taken by surprise. He said the issue had been treated far seriously even after Pandya’s promising show in the domestic professional league.
Pandya, who faced a sanction for a couple of matches apart from the hefty fine of INR 20 lakh following his sexist remarks on the talk show – Koffee with Karanhas made a strong comeback. However, he alongside KL Rahul has tendered a public apology for their misogynistic comments.
Sehwag feels the duo has served punishment on being called back from the Australian tour.
“I was surprised that the issue was blown out of proportion. Pandya and Rahul were already punished when they were called back from the Australia tour. He felt that if the BCCI president was strong, and CoA hadn’t handled this issue, it would have stayed low key. They might have been mentally upset a little on their comeback, as everyone is talking about what they have done and focus is on him,” Sehwag inferred.
Meanwhile, Pandya would be bracing up for the challenge to leave an impact given to his all-round ability in England.
India will kick-off their World Cup campaign at Southampton where they will face South Africa.
