Indian allrounder Washington Sundar, who has had a recent history of injuries, is set to return to action for Siechem Madurai Panthers in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Premier League starting on Monday. The 23-year-old will bring in all of his IPL and International experience to the side which would be invaluable for the youngsters in the team.
Earlier during the IPL 2023, Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the Sunrisers Hyderabad campaign owing to a hamstring injury. The 23-year-old played seven matches for SRH in IPL 2023, scoring 60 runs and claiming three wickets at an average of 48.67, and will look to turn things around in the TNPL 2023.
Recurrent Injuries have stalled his career in a way over the past couple of years, as he could not potentially throw his name for selections during the 2022 T20 World Cup and 2022 Asia Cup. The Indian all-rounder is in the fray for the selection for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India later this year and he will look to prove his fitness ahead of the vital white-ball season for the Men in Blue.
Washington Sundar has been a good off-spinner for India with very handy batting potential and is also an impeccable fielder. In T20 cricket, Sundar is an excellent defensive bowler who has a knack for picking up important wickets, Sundar has played many valuable for India and his State-side Tamil Nadu in the middle order.
Sundar would be a vital asset for the Indian team in the forthcoming years being a three-dimensional player for the Indian team and the youngster has gained plenty of experience playing in a variety of situations, in different formats and competitions, providing flexibility in the batting order as he has ample amount of experiences in the middle order playing for Tamil Nadu and TNPL teams.
Washington Sundar was a steal pick for Madurai Panthers in the auction as they picked him for 6.75 lakhs many teams didn’t go after the youngster as many thought that he would not be available this season owing to his international commitments with the Indian team.
Madurai Panthers have been the preparations for the TNPL 2023, as they had a good auction earlier this year, picking some prominent names including Murugan Ashwin, Swapnil Singh, Hari Nishaanth on their side alongside promising youngsters Ajay K Krishnan, and Gurjapneet Singh in the team. They will take on Nellai Royal Kings in their opening game on Wednesday in Coimbatore
