Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Tharanga has played international cricket for a long time. Once he faced a suspension for involving in doping violation.
After the semi-final match against New Zealand in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, Tharanga provided a urine sample. Later, the test had a positive result for the banned metabolites of two glucocorticosteroids – prednisone and prednisolone.
Tharanga admitted that he took some medication for asthma, but he had no information about the banned drug. Later, the ICC suspended him for three months that started on 9th May 2011 and ended on 8th August 2011.
