Upbeat Alex Hales Set to Join England’s ICC World Cup 2019 Camp in Cardiff
England top-order batsman Alex Hales will join the English team camp in a bid to prepare for the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2019. The Three Lions’ 15-man squad will train in Cardiff. Interestingly, Hales, who averages 37.8 in One-day Internationals (ODI), made his 50-over debut way back in 2014 at the same venue.
Last week, England has announced the squad in which Hales got introduced in the preliminary squad for the twelfth edition of the quadrennial event. The ODI showpiece will get underway with England-South Africa game on May 30 at Kennington Oval in London.
With the explosive batsman set to join English squad on April 27 (Saturday), he recently took a break while citing the ‘personal reasons’, behind his decision.
Hales has a lot to prove:
In the domestic fold, the 30-year-old right-handed batsman represents English County side Nottinghamshire. He went on to miss the last three games owing to privacy. However, the club has backed his decision when he opted out of the three opening fixtures of the Royal London One Day Cup due to personal reasons.
However, the Notts didn’t set any timetable for his return neither Hales himself. Also, he is set to miss a home game on April 26 (Friday) at Leicestershire.
With England squad set to partake in the upcoming pre-World Cup training camp, it’s unclear whether Hales would turn out for the impending game against Ireland on May 3.
While playing at home, Hales is confident to give his best. He recently reiterated that he is focusing on the white-ball cricket and has been working hard to improve his game.
Over the last couple of years, Hales has been an integral part of England’s limited-overs’ campaign.
So far, in 70 ODIs, Hales had struck six hundreds.
Ben Stokes will also join the squad:
On the other side, all-rounder Jofra Archer has left for home alongside Ben Stokes. They were the part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (IPL). Overall, Stokes, a three-dimensional player looked off-colour.
However, the management is upbeat to see them doing well at the earliest.
