Former Indian wicket-keeper Vijay Dahiya believes that the 39-year-old former Indian World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni is not finished yet.
Many cricket experts believe that MS Dhoni has put a strong impact during his long cricket career. After making his ODI debut in December 2004, Dhoni has played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is, including leading the Indian team for a record time of 332 international matches.
Apart from being a strong batsman with the incredible ability to finish the game successfully and smart speedy wicket-keeper, cool and calm Dhoni is also a very good leader. Under his captaincy, India achieved many great successes in international cricket. Dhoni is the only captain to win three different ICC trophies as India won the ICC World T20 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013 under his captaincy.
Since the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand on 10th July 2019, Dhoni hasn’t played a recognised cricket match yet. After that tournament, the senior wicketkeeper-batsman hasn’t made himself available for the national team selection, but he hasn’t also officially clarified about his future in the international cricket.
While India was getting ready to host the IPL 2020 between 29th March and 24th May 2020, Dhoni was focusing to return on the field as he was ready to continue his leadership role for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Many believed that Dhoni would make a decision on his international cricket future after the IPL 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic forced to postpone the IPL 13.
Whenever you’re going to talk about Indian cricket, you’ll definitely have a chapter or a mention as far as MS Dhoni is concerned: Vijay Dahiya
While the coronavirus pandemic has forced to delay Dhoni’s return on the field, some have now raised their doubts on Dhoni’s international future. However, the Delhi Capitals’ chief talent scout Vijay Dahiya claimed that Dhoni’s mind couldn’t be understood easily. The former Indian wicket-keeper believes that Dhoni still can maintain his familiar image on the cricket field.
Dahiya told Sportskeeda, “I think if someone lives with him (MS Dhoni) for 30 years, then also that person doesn’t know what MS Dhoni is thinking and what he’s going to do next. That is MS for you. Whenever you’re going to talk about Indian cricket, you’ll definitely have a chapter or a mention as far as MS Dhoni is concerned. And with a character like him, he’s not finished yet.”
Many cricket fans are waiting for the delayed IPL 2020 to watch MS Dhoni again on the field. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is likely to host this tournament from September to November.
