Former Pakistan captain and present Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis believes that Babar Azam can break the records of Pakistan batting legends.
From a very early age, Babar Azam has impressed with his batting skills. He is a very confident batsman and also a consistent batsman in the international cricket arena. The world cricket is praising his batting quality.
In limited-overs cricket, he is currently one of the best batsmen in the world. Meanwhile, the right-handed batsman has now started to perform consistently in the Test cricket also. In the last calendar year (2018), he was the most Test run-scorer for Pakistan.
Babar Azam made his international debut in May 2015. Since then, he has played 21 Tests, 74 ODIs and 33 T20Is. The right-handed batsman has scored 1,235 Test runs (average 35.28), 3,359 ODI runs (average 54.17) and 1,290 runs (average 49.61). At present, he is the top-ranked T20I batsman, third-ranked ODI batsman and 15th-ranked Test batsman.
Babar Azam has already hit 11 ODI centuries – joint third most ODI centuries by a Pakistan batsman. At present, Babar is Pakistan’s limited-overs vice-captain.
Babar Azam is doing a wonderful job for himself and Pakistan – Waqar Younis
Observing his impressive batting quality, Waqar Younis has high hope on Babar Azam. While Babar is just 25-year-old, he has already shown a great temperament in his batting. Waqar believes if Babar grows up like this, then he can break the record of Pakistan batting legends like Javed Miandad, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan etc.
According to PakPassion, Waqar said, “Good thing about Babar Azam is that he has come through the ranks – he’s played U16, U19 and also played plenty of cricket for Pakistan A also; he is doing a wonderful job for himself and Pakistan and growing in confidence and getting better. Babar Azam is probably one of the batsmen we have at the moment who can really go on and beat records of Javed Miandad, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan; he is the guy who can challenge their records.”
Also, most recently, Babar Azam became the most T20 run-scorer as a Pakistan batsman in a calendar year. In this year (2019), he has already scored 1,409 T20I runs. On last Wednesday (16th October), Babar broke the previous record of 1,386 runs by Umar Akmal in 2016.
