Fawad Alam Becomes The Fastest Pakistan Batsman To Register 5 Test Tons

Fawad Alam has become the fastest Pakistan batsman to register five Test hundreds. Fawad Alam achieved the feat in the ongoing second Test against West Indies on Sunday.

The left-handed batsman scored his fifth Test ton only in his 22nd innings. Former Pakistan skipper Younis Khan was the fastest from the country before Fawad Alam broke his record.

Fawad Alam Breaks Younis Khan’s Record Of Scoring Quickest First Five Test Tons

Younis Khan had scored his first five-Test tons in 28 innings while Saleem Malik achieved a similar feat in 29 innings. Fawad Alam also became the sixth Pakistan batsman to score a century at Sabina Park, joining Imtiaz Ahmed (122 in 1958), Wazir Mohammad (106 in 1958), Asif Iqbal (135 in 1977), Younis Khan (106 in 2005), and Inzamam-ul-Haq (117 not out in 2005).

In reaching his century, the 35-year-old left-hander also became the quickest Asian batsman to reach five Test centuries in 22 innings, eclipsing Cheteshwar Pujara (24 innings) and Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar (both achieved the feat in 25 innings).

Fawad Alam Scores Unbeaten 124 In Pakistan’s 302/9 Declared

On day three of the second Test, Fawad Alam defied West Indies bowlers to record his fifth Test hundred before left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi snatched a brace of wickets to rock the hosts’ top order. Pakistan converted their overnight 212-4 into 302-9, before declaring 35 minutes after tea on Sunday.

The left-handed Fawad Alam struck an unbeaten 124, resuming his innings on 76 after retiring from heat exhaustion, 20 minutes after tea on Friday’s opening day. Babar Azam had scored 75 while the likes of Abid Ali(1), Imran Butt(1) ad Azhar Ali(0) fell cheaply.

Mohammad Rizwan made 31 and Faheem Ashraf got 26, with fast bowlers Jayden Seales (3-31) and Kemar Roach (3-68) finishing with three scalps apiece, and Jason Holder supporting with 2-46. Faced with 27 overs at the back end of the final session, West Indies closed at 39-3 for at the close – 263 runs adrift in the first innings with two days left in the match as Day 2 was washed out.

Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam returned to Pakistan’s Test playing XI after missing 88 matches in the span of 10 years and 8 months. Fawad Alam was picked in the playing XI of the second Test match against England in Southampton in the place of Shadab Khan.

He last played for Pakistan in a Test in November 2009 against New Zealand. The 88 Tests gap is the 7th longest between two matches in red-ball cricket. While it is the second-longest gap for a Pakistan cricketer as Younis Ahmed tops the list with 104 Tests gap between 1969-1987.

The 35-year-old left-hander smashed a debut hundred in Sri Lanka in 2009 but was discarded after only two more Tests and then had to wait for 10 years and 259 days for his next Test, in England last year.

In 13 Tests, he has amassed 895 runs averaging 47.11 with 5 tons and a solitary fifty.

Younis Khan Denies Hasan Ali Spat As Reason For His Resignation As Batting Coach

Younis Khan, a former Pakistan stalwart announced his resignation as the batting coach ahead of the national side’s tour of England. The former batsman resigned from the top job on June 22 even though he was roped in by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a two-year contract, which would’ve come to a conclusion after the 2022 T20 World Cup.

A specific reason wasn’t revealed for his departure, but reports of his spat with speedster Hasan Ali started doing the rounds soon. Many reports have claimed that the two players were involved in a heated argument during Pakistan’s successful tour of South Africa early this year.

Younis Khan Denies Hasan Ali Spat As Reason For His Resignation As Batting Coach

The entire incident escalated when Hasan Ali had allegedly refused to take an ice bath following a T20I, which irked the batting coach. Hasan Ali’s refusal to follow the instructions of the trainer Yasir Malik irked Younis Khan and he lost his cool temper as bowling coach Waqar Younis had to jump into the scene for reconciliation.

At first, Younis Khan was unavailable to comment on his resignation, but the 43-year-old has now broken his silence on the ice-bath controversy.

“Hasan Ali apologised to me, and I had forgiven him. To play up the Hasan Ali incident (and use it) as a possible reason for my resignation comes as a surprise to me.”

Younis Khan’s own statements have confirmed that everything wasn’t well between him and the national Pakistan players and a heated exchange of words had taken place between Hasan Ali and the former cricketer. As the batting coach has denied his spat being a reason for his departure, it reasons to be seen what led to him quitting the job which he had till 2022 T20 World Cup.

Younis Khan Is The Only Pakistan Cricketer To Score Above 10,000 Test Runs

Earlier, dental treatment and being accused of leaking Men in Green’s team information to his media friends were stated to be one of the prime reasons for Younis Khan’s exit. The Babar Azam-led Pakistan team, meanwhile, is in England and Wales for three ODIs and as many T20Is.

Younis Khan is the only Pakistan player to score 10,000+ Test runs and  Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in Test cricket with the most centuries. He is also the only player to score Test hundreds in all 11 countries. He announced his ODI retirement in November 2015 after having announced his T20I retirement in 2009.

Alleged misbehavior of a Pakistan Cricket Board official with Younis Khan led to the former captain quitting his batting coach position with the national team ahead of the England tour. Younis Khan wanted to join the team’s bio-bubble a few days later and that conversation with a board official led to him stepping down as batting coach. He had asked the PCB to allow him to join the mandatory bio-bubble for the England tour after a few days’ delay as he had to undergo a complex dental treatment in Karachi

Younis Khan And Pakistan Cricket Board Mutually Agreed To Part Ways: Wasim Khan

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the men’s cricket batting coach on Tuesday mutually agreed to part ways. The former Pakistan batsman was appointed last year in November on a two-year contract until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

“It is sad to lose an expert of the stature and experience of Younis Khan. Following a series of discussions, we both have reluctantly but mutually and amicably agreed that it was time to move in different directions,” said PCB chief executive Wasim Khan.

“I want to thank Younis Khan for his contributions during his short stint as the Pakistan men’s national cricket team’s batting coach and hope he will remain available to assist the PCB by sharing his vast knowledge with the emerging cricketers,” added Wasim.

Both PCB and Younis Khan have agreed not to make any further comment on the reasons for the former captain’s departure. Pakistan men’s cricket team will travel to the United Kingdom without a batting coach, while the decision to appoint Younis Khan’s replacement for the West Indies tour will be made in due course.

Younis Khan Was Appointed Ahead Of Pakistan’s England Tour To Join Misbah ul Haq, Waqar Younis, And Mushtaq Ahmed

Younis Khan was appointed ahead of Pakistan’s tour of England last year to join head coach Misbah ul Haq, bowling coach Waqar Younis and spin-bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed in the team management. That was also his first appointment with the PCB since his retirement in 2017.

Pakistan had mixed results since he took over as batting coach. In five overseas Tests in England and New Zealand, Pakistan drew two and lost three before beating South Africa across formats – both home and away – followed by a successful tour to Zimbabwe.

Pakistan men’s national cricket team will tour England from 25 June to 20 July for three ODIs and three T20Is, while the West Indies tour will be from 21 July to 24 August where the visiting team will feature in five T20Is and two Tests.

Pakistan Should Give Youngsters Longer Run To Prove Themselves, Says Imam-ul-Haq

Imam-ul-Haq has explained that one of the things that are pulling down Pakistan cricket is the unwillingness to give the younger players a long rope.

During the 1990s and 2000s, the contests between India and Pakistan used to be pretty evenly-matches. However, over the last few years, the contests have become a lot more one-sided. While India has developed a strong pool of players, Pakistan has not been able to do that at the same level as their rivals.

Imam-ul-Haq Spoke To Eoin Morgan And Virat Kohli As He Feels Pakistan Is Lacking As Their Cricketers Isn’t Given A Proper Run To Prove Themselves

Opening batsman Imam-Ul-Haq has explained that one of the things bothering Pakistan cricket is the unwillingness to give the young players a long rope, something that cricketing nations like India and England have excelled at.

India’s pool of players is vast and highly talented, whereas England isn’t much behind. Pakistan, on the other hand, have depth in their line-up of their youngsters, but Imam-ul-Haq reckons the management needs to show faith in their abilities and give them considerable opportunities to help them nurture.

“I have spoken to Eoin Morgan and Virat Kohli, two of the most successful captains in white-ball cricket. I have heard from them and their players that the cricketers get a full go and a proper run to prove themselves. I think this is where we are lacking,” Imam told sports presenter Sawera Pasha on the YouTube show ‘Cricast’.

“I think if we find that consistency, we will get better results. In South Africa, we managed to chase 330, because the core of the ODI side has been the same for a while.”

Pakistan batsman Imam-ul-Haq has opined that players being underpaid compared to nations like India is one reason youngsters cannot express themselves freely out in the middle. Like the IPL, Pakistan has its own T20 league (PSL). However, according to Imam-ul-Haq, players don’t get paid enough, be it in the franchise or domestic cricket.
The 25-year-old revealed that he has even spoken to legends like Eoin Morgan and Virat Kohli on why their (white-ball) teams are incredibly successful and how they managed to maintain consistency.

Imam-ul-Haq: IPL Has Made A Big Difference In India

Another reason why Pakistan is behind in terms of producing quality young cricketers such as India points out Imam is not getting the chance to play the IPL. Pakistan cricketers have been banned from playing the IPL, with their only appearance coming in the first-ever edition back in 2008. Imam-ul-Haq says a tournament of the calibre of IPL has gone a long way in shaping youngsters.

“So when they face these bowlers in international cricket, there is less of a mental barrier. For Pakistan, a player is directly drafted in from domestic cricket, so he finds it difficult to make that immediate adjustment,” Imam explained.

Apart from Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir (Rajasthan Royals), other Pakistan cricketers like Shahid Afridi (Deccan Chargers), Shoaib Malik (Delhi Daredevils), Shoaib Akhtar (Kolkata Knight Riders), Misbah-ul-Haq (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Mohammad Asif (Delhi Daredevils), Kamran Akmal (Rajasthan Royals), Salman Butt (Kolkata Knight Riders), Umar Gul (Kolkata Knight Riders), Younis Khan (Rajasthan Royals), Mohammad Hafeez (Kolkata Knight Riders) participated in IPL 2008.

Sohail Tanvir represented Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the inaugural edition of the T20 Championship and scripted history by claiming the Purple Cap. Sohail Tanvir Maintains He Initially Had No Idea What IPL Was

Sohail Tanvir, a former Pakistan seamer was one among a handful of Pakistan players who received a chance to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sohail Tanvir represented Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the inaugural edition of the T20 Championship and scripted history by claiming the Purple Cap.

Sohail Tanvir Was Young And Inexperienced When He Played IPL In Its Inaugural Edition In 2008

The veteran opened up on his stint in the Indian Premier League saying that it was an enriching experience and gave him a platform to play against some of the best players. Sohail Tanvir admitted that initially, he had no idea regarding what the IPL was.

In an interaction on the YouTube channel My Master Cricket Coach, the 36-year-old said, “When I played IPL back in the first edition in 2008, I was young and inexperienced as I had not played too many international games.”

“That time, I think we were playing a series against South Africa and league cricket hardly used to be played, so I had no idea what the IPL was. The cricket board told me that we have got you a contract and you have to go to play IPL in March-April,” he said

“And, when I went to play in the IPL, there were so many big stars. I had never thought about something like that. The best bowlers from all over the world were there. So, to go there and perform so well…” Tanvir added.

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) is a franchise cricket team based in Jaipur, India, which plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They were one of the eight teams that competed in the 2008 Indian Premier League. They were captained by Shane Warne. The all-rounder Shane Watson won the man of the tournament award for scoring as many as 472 runs and picking 17 wickets.

Rajasthan Royals finished winners in the IPL and qualified for the champions league T20. The team won the inaugural edition of the IPL under the captaincy of Shane Warne, despite being written off as a title contender by the media and fans. The Royals were also the runners-up of the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy.

On 14 July 2015, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were suspended for two years over a 2013 betting scandal, meaning they could not participate in both the 2016 and 2017 IPL tournaments. They returned to the competition for the 2018 season.

Sohail Tanvir: Everyone Knows About The Fan Following Of Pakistan Players In India And If Pakistan Players Are Allowed To Play In IPL, It Will Be Beneficial For Both Players And League

2008 was the last season when the Pakistan players played in the Indian Premier League. Due to the political tension between the two neighbouring nations, India and Pakistan face each other on the cricket field only during the ICC events. However, the veteran seamer is hopeful that relations between India and Pakistan will improve soon and the Pakistani players will be allowed to feature in the tournament as it will benefit both the players and the league.

“If Pakistani players are allowed to play in the IPL, it will be beneficial for both the players and the league. Players from all over the world except Pakistan play in the IPL. Everybody knows about the fan-following of Pakistan players in India. I have witnessed that while playing for Pakistan and also in the IPL.”

“When I played IPL, I learned a lot. Since I did well, it played a major role in me gaining confidence going ahead. So it would be great if our players get to play in the league. But, these things are not in our control. There are many other factors at work. Hope it happens sooner or later,” Sohail Tanvir signed off.

Apart from Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir, other Pakistan cricketers like Shahid Afridi (Deccan Chargers), Shoaib Malik (Delhi Daredevils), Shoaib Akhtar (Kolkata Knight Riders), Misbah-ul-Haq (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Mohammad Asif (Delhi Daredevils), Kamran Akmal (Rajasthan Royals), Salman Butt (Kolkata Knight Riders), Umar Gul (Kolkata Knight Riders), Younis Khan (Rajasthan Royals), Mohammad Hafeez (Kolkata Knight Riders) participated in IPL 2008.

Babar Azam Has The Desire And Hunger To Score Runs, Says Younis Khan

Younis Khan, Pakistan’s batting coach has said that other players need to learn from Babar Azam, who is on his way to becoming one of the batting greats.

Babar Azam, the 25-year-old Pakistan ODI, and T20I captain had gained fame with his batting in a short period of his international career.

Younis Khan: Babar Azam Has The Desire And Hunger To Score Runs

The No.2 ranked ODI batsman, No.6 ranked Test batsman, and No.3 ranked T20I batsman Babar Azam averages around 56 in ODIs and around 44 in Tests, and around 47 in T20Is. Babar Azam has around 10,000 runs in all 3 formats combined.

Talking to the reporters virtually, Younis Khan said: “Babar Azam is one of the top players in the world and he went through a process and got the time he needed to grow as he has been with the team for a good few years now.

“The most important quality that Babar has is the desire and hunger to score runs. We are also seeing his captaincy improve with each outing as his shot selection.

“Being a top international player, there are a lot of expectations from Babar Azam. That’s why he is improving his fitness as well as his technique. Sometimes people say that they see glimpses of us (Younis, Yousaf, and Misbah) in Babar, Fakhar, and Rizwan which feels like an achievement for us,” he added.

“I feel that Babar’s learning process is amazing but I let me say that when players in my generation came into the national side, we had the examples of Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, Aamir Sohail, Ijaz Ahmed, and Salim Malik in front of us. The players from today miss that kind of exposure to top players but Babar is lucky that he saw players like Mohammad Yousuf, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Younis Khan playing in their prime,” he asserted.

Younis Khan said he doesn’t agree with the way the players are selected for the national team across formats.

“A benchmark needs to be set to pick players for the senior team, particularly batsmen. We need to look at how much cricket experience a player has under his belt before considering him for selection. I am not in favour of picking players based on limited franchise cricket exposure. I agree players must have proper first-class and List A experience behind them before they are considered for selection,” Younis Khan added.

Babar Azam was reportedly keen on the selection of Ammad Butt, Aamer Yameen, and Iftikhar Ahmad and was unhappy with the axing of Kamran Ghulam and stressed that the inclusion of Shahnawaz Dhani is quite premature. He wanted Imad Wasim in the T20I Squad while spinner Zahid Mehmood was also dropped from the T20 Squad despite his fine performance against South Africa in the home series which has irked Babar Azam no end. The skipper was also in favour of Shan Masood’s selection for the Zimbabwe Test series.

Younis Khan Can’t Interfere In Selection As The Final Decision Is With The Head Coach And Captain

To a query regarding repeated chances given to players like Asif Ali, Haider Ali, and others despite their failures, Younis Khan replied that he was just a batting coach and final selection is the domain of the head coach and captain.

“I can’t interfere. I can only give recommendations and feedback to them and the final decision is with the head coach and captain. We are trying to find the right combination in batting. So that we get performing batsmen in all formats.”

The former captain said the South African tour, where Pakistan won both the ODI and T20 series, has been a good learning experience for the players.

“Overall, the tour was a good learning experience for our players and especially the top order batsmen and bowlers excelled during the tour. But the middle-order batsman didn’t produce good results during the series.

“We are lacking in this area and we have to address this area well before playing the T20 World Cup in India,” Younis concluded.

The visitors beat a weakened South Africa, who missed several players for being India bound to play IPL 2021, in the third ODI in Centurion to clinch the three-match series 2-1. South Africa fielded a new look T20I team with several key players missing due to IPL commitments and were beaten by Pakistan by 3-1 in the 4 match T20I series.

South Africa made several changes in the deciding ODI as the likes of Anrich Nortje, David Miller, Quinton De Kock, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi didn’t play the last ODI and subsequent T20Is for heading to India to participate in IPL.

Fakhar Zaman was the standout performer scoring 302 runs in 3 ODIs averaging 100.67 while Babar Azam averaged 76 amassing 228 runs. In T20Is, Mohammed Rizwan contributed with 344 runs averaging 86.

Pakistan hosted Test matches after 10 years with Sri Lanka playing in December 2019 after hooligan assailants attacked visiting Sri Lankan bus in 2009. The cricketers escaped suffering minor injuries as UAE became Pakistan’s home venue with visiting teams not favouring to visit Pakistan for security reasons.

Inzamam-ul-Haq Pleased To Be Involved In The Historic Series In Pakistan And Believes Pakistan Will Be A Tough Side

Highlight packages will be also available at the end of the day’s play apart from the virtual press conferences of the star performers of the day, on the PCB YouTube Channel that will allow the fans and followers to rewind the day and enjoy the action.

Inzamam-ul-Haq said, “I am pleased to be involved in this historic series, being played in Pakistan for the first time since 2007. I have no doubts this is going to be an exciting and keenly-contested series and, in this background, I am looking forward to sharing my views, analysis and thoughts with the Pakistan cricket fans through the PCB digital platforms.”

“Despite the recent series loss in New Zealand, I still believe Pakistan will be a tough side as its players are used to playing on these surfaces. Whether they will be able to cash in on the advantage of playing in familiar conditions is to be seen, but I have a feeling we will get quality performers from this series,” Inzamam-ul-Haq added.

Inzamam-ul-Haq is Pakistan’s third most successful batsman behind Younis Khan (10,099) and Javed Miandad (8,832) with 8,829 Test runs. Against South Africa, he scored 710 runs in 13 Tests, while he holds an average of over 72 at the National Stadium after aggregating 722 runs in eight Tests with three centuries and as many half-centuries. Inzamam ul Haq captained Pakistan in 31 Tests, winning 11 and losing 10.

Mohammad Asif Questions Credentials Of Pakistan’s Coaching Trio

Mohammad Asif, former Pakistan pacer questioned the credentials of the national team’s current coaching staff comprising Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan and Waqar Younis. He is one of the several Pakistan cricketers to criticize the trio for the team’s underwhelming performances.

Mohammad Asif spoke at length about his international career which ended abruptly after his involvement in spot-fixing and the current state of Pakistan cricket during interaction with Kamran Akmal on his YouTube channel.

Mohammad Asif: Waqar Younis As Coach Is Nothing But Have Respect For Him As Player Same For Misbah Ul Haq And Younis Khan

Kamran Akmal asked Mohammad Asif if Waqar Younis had helped in his growth as a coach, or whether he improved by bowling alongside pacer Shoaib Akhtar who was known to bowl at a furious pace. The former pacer responded that the latter’s presence helped him more although the duo employed different methods for dismissing batsmen.

Mohammad Asif further added that the current set of Pakistan coaches – Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan and Waqar Younis – are not good enough for the job, though they were great players during their time.

“No doubt Shoaib bhai used to bowl fast and my attempt was to pitch the ball up to get the batsmen out. As a coach, if you ask me Waqar Younis is zero. He was great as a player. I have respect for him as a player. The three guys who are associated to the team currently – Younis bhai was a big player but he does not have any knowledge as a coach. Misbah is totally zero, as a player he was okay,” said Mohammad Asif.

Waqar Younis
Waqar Younis (Image Credit: Google)

Mohammad Asif said his opinion was based on coaching videos he had seen on the Pakistan Cricket Board website when he was asked by the former wicket-keeper how he could judge Younis Khan though he wasn’t a batsman himself. But he reiterated that he didn’t doubt the trio’s prowess as players.

“I have seen a couple of videos on the PCB website. Even a neighborhood kid will tell you that he is telling the wrong thing. I am not talking about his credibility as a player. He has scored 10000 runs as a player, Misbah has also scored runs,” observed Mohammad Asif.

Under the coaches, Pakistan lost the 1st Test against New Zealand after losing the T20I series 2-1 although they won 3rd T20I which was a consolation win as New Zealand won first two T20Is. Against England too Pakistan lost Test series 1-0 and drew T20I series 1-1.

Mohammad Asif Feels Mohammad Amir Hasn’t Been Treated Fairly

Mohammad Asif believes Waqar Younis, a great bowler in his days could have got the best out of Mohammad Amir who retired from Tests recently to play in the shorter formats of the game.

“Waqar Younis no doubt was a great bowler. He has still kept the mentality of 1990s that this guy has done something wrong and he should be dropped. This is not how it should be, there are small-small things like the entire team became against Amir. Why is that the case? They can use him in T20Is and ODIs, if he has taken retirement from Test matches,” said Asif.

Mohammad Amir

According to Mohammad Asif, Pakistan coaches need to look at things from a broader perspective in the interests of Pakistan rather than satisfying their own egos as Mohammad Amir contemplated retirement from international cricket after being ignored for New Zealand tour.

“You have to think about Pakistan and not about your own cricket. If you are the coach, you should have a big vision. They can tell him it’s fine if he has retired from Test cricket and they can use the new players in Tests. They could have still got work done from him but they have let him go because of their ego,” concluded Asif.

The current Pakistan coaching setup has received severe criticism and drew flak from various quarters after Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket. The left-arm pacer who quit Test cricket to concentrate in limited-overs format said that he is willing to reconsider his retirement decision but not under the current set of coaches led by Misbah Ul Haq and comprising of Waqar Younis and Younis Khan.

Misbah-ul-Haq Advices PCB To Appoint Younis Khan As Full-Time Batting Coach

Pakistan Head coach and chief selector, Misbah-ul-Haq has advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appoint former skipper Younis Khan as a full-time batting coach of the Pakistan National Cricket Team. The PCB had appointed him for the team’s ongoing tour of England.

The second Test of England vs Pakistan was drawn after rain disrupted the match. The teams were frustrated to not have completed the match as the pitch conditions were very favourable for the bowlers and the match was turning out to be a competitive one. An Inside Source Told Misbah-ul-Haq Has Demanded A Long Term Contract From PCB For Younis Khan

Pakistan Coach Misbah-ul-Haq is impressed by the hardwork put up by temporary batting coach Younis Khan in the ongoing series against England. Thus, Misbah-ul-Haq has demanded a long term contract for Younis Khan from PCB’s managing director Wasim Khan, a source told.

“Younis has been appointed as batting coach of the senior team for only the England tour.

But Misbah has been very impressed with the dedication and hard work put in by Younis Khan while working with the batsmen in the team in England,” the source said.

“Misbah has asked Wasim Khan to consider giving Younis a long-term contract with the team as he feels the former captain and teammate will only have a positive influence on the batsmen in the team. Everyone has been pleasantly surprised to see the positive and cheerful behaviour of Younis although during his playing days he was known for his flashy temperament and run-ins with the establishment,” the source added.

Younis Khan Says He Is Working On Their Techniques As Well As Mindset

The newly appointed temporary Batting coach is enjoying his stint which is likely to be extended. He has been working on the batsman’s techniques as well as mindset, which he as a player knows is very important to perform well.

“Nothing would make me happier than to see Babar Azam or Asad Shafiq go and break many records in the years to come. I am working with the batsmen not just from a technical point of view but also on their mindset because it is the mental approach of a player which decides whether he will be a world class performer or not,”.

He is also the only player to score Test hundreds in all 11 countries. He announced his ODI retirement in November 2015 after having announced his T20I retirement in 2009.
