Watch: Oman Leg-Spinner Khawar Ali Creates History By Claiming A T20I Hat-Trick

The 33-year-old Oman leg-spinner Khawar Ali entered in the T20I record book on last Wednesday (9th October). He created history after taking a T20I hat-trick against the Netherlands.

It was the match between the hosts Oman and the Netherlands in Oman Pentangular T20I Series at Al Amerat. After deciding to bat first, the Netherlands faced a massive batting collapse and were all out on 94 runs (15.3 overs). Once they were batting on 71/2 in 9 overs. But the leg-spinner Khawar Ali and the left-arm spinner Zeeshan Maqsood destroyed the Dutch batting line-up.

Khawar Ali became the 9th bowler to claim a T20I hat-trick

In his very first over of the match, Khawar Ali claimed his hat-trick and started the batting collapse. In the first three balls of the 10th over, Ali dismissed Antonius Staal (19 runs), Colin Ackermann (15 runs) and Roelof van der Merwe (0). Staal and Ackermann were caught out while van der Merwe was trapped for the lbw.

It was the 10th hat-trick in T20I history and the first international hat-trick by an Oman bowler. In fact, it was the first time when a bowler from non-Test member (non-Full-member) claimed an international hat-trick. Ali became the ninth bowler to claim a T20I hat-trick (Lasith Malinga has managed it twice). After Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan, Khawar Ali became the second spinner to claim a T20I hat-trick.

Also, it was the seventh international hat-trick in 2019. It is the most international hat-trick in a calendar year. The other six international hat-trick bowlers in this list are Afghanistan leggie Rashid Khan (T20I), Indian right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami (ODI), New Zealand left-arm pacer Trent Boult (ODI), Indian right-arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah (Test), Sri Lankan right-arm pacer Lasith Malinga (T20I) and Pakistan right-arm pacer Mohammad Hasnain (T20I).

Among the Netherlands batsmen, the opener Max O’Dowd (24 runs) was the only man to reach the 20-run mark.

Khawar Ali had the bowling figures of 3.3-0-16-4. Meanwhile, Zeeshan Maqsood managed the incredible bowling figures of 3-0-7-4. These two are now the top two T20I bowling figures for Oman.

In reply, Oman chased down that tiny target in 15.1 overs after losing three wickets. Opener Aqib Ilyas (44 runs) played the crucial role in that chasing. The Dutch captain Pieter Seelaar (2/20) tried to put a fight, but that wasn’t enough for them.
