In the shocking auction of the IPL 2020 yesterday, the veteran Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan went off the stage without being sold to any of the bidders. For the first time in his IPL career, Yusuf will not be a member of India’s cash-rich league.
However, the other veteran Indian star cricketer took to his social media account to post a heartfelt message for his brother. The Indian allrounder, Irfan Pathan posted an emotional message for his elder brother after he failed to make it to the IPL 2020.
Yusuf has been a part of all the editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has emerged as one of the most successful all-rounders in this event. In his debut season in the IPL, Yusuf collected eight wickets along with scoring 435 runs with his bat in the IPL 2008. He gave his best to the 2008 IPL winners Rajasthan Royals (RR) who picked him for his IPL debut after noticing his performance in the domestic cricket of the 2007/08 season.
The 37-years-old cricketer scored some of the fastest half-centuries in IPL history. Apart from this, he also had a record of scoring then fastest IPL century off just 37 balls (now it is the second-fastest IPL century) against Mumbai Indians in 2010 that included 11 consecutive hits to the boundary.
Irfan posts a heartfelt message for his brother Yusuf:
However, Yusuf went unsold in the IPL 2020 auction among a few other famous names of the cricket world. Although he gave his best years to Rajasthan Royals (won IPL 2008) and Kolkata Knight Riders (won IPL 2012 and 2014), he couldn’t prove his worth to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). SRH bagged him ahead of the IPL 2018. With them, he featured for two seasons but couldn’t live up to their expectations.
Ahead of the IPL 2020 auction, SRH released Yusuf who had registered himself for the auction with the base price of Rs. 1 crore. But much to his expectations and experience in the league, he was not picked up by any franchise at the auction.
Nevertheless, his younger brother Irfan Pathan referred to Yusuf’s first dismissal auction as a ‘small hiccup’ comparing his performance in the previous editions of the league.
The former Indian allrounder posted a picture of himself celebrating with Yusuf after India’s triumph at the 2007 ICC World T20 and wrote:
“Small hiccups doesn’t define your career, you have been outstanding thru out. A real match winner. Love you always Lala @iamyusufpathan”

In the meantime, at the auction night, all the eight teams went to get in their full of the overseas players, but all the teams did not fill up their entire squad size. Kings XI Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals were the only three franchises to have their fill of 25 members in their squad. Whereas, Australian spearhead Pat Cummins is now listed as the second most expensive cricketer in the IPL auction history. He was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping Rs. 15.50 crore in IPL 2020 auction that was held in Kolkata on Thursday.
