Yuzvendra Chahal Becomes Joint Most T20I Wicket-Taker For India
During the opening game of the three-match T20I series between the hosts India and the visiting side Windies, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal became the joint most T20I wicket-taker for India.
On Friday (6th December), India and Windies met in the T20I series opener at Hyderabad. Before that match, Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the third most T20I wicket-taker in Indian cricket history with 50 T20I wickets. Only the off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (52 wickets) and right-arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah (51 wickets) were ahead of Chahal in this list.
Yuzvendra Chahal had the bowling figures of 4-0-36-2
During this T20I, Yuzvendra Chahal bagged two wickets and became the joint most T20I wicket-taker for India. While the Caribbean batsmen dominated in the first innings of that match, Chahal was wicketless in his first three overs. However, he took two wickets in the 18th over of that innings which was his final over in that game.
On the very first ball of the 18th over of first innings, Yuzvendra Chahal took the wicket of set batsman Shimron Hetmyer (56 runs off 41 balls). Hetmyer went for a slog sweep, and it went straight to the deep backward square fielder Rohit Sharma who didn’t make a mistake to grab that ball.
On the third ball of that same over, Chahal bowled another set Caribbean batsman, captain Kieron Pollard (37 runs in 19 balls).
Yuzvendra Chahal finished the match with the bowling figures of 4-0-36-2. After playing 35 T20Is, the leg-spinner has claimed 52 T20I wickets. In the last month (10th November 2019), during the Nagpur T20I against Bangladesh, Chahal became the fastest Indian bowler and fifth fastest overall bowler to claim 50 T20I wickets (in 34 T20Is).
Coming back to the Hyderabad T20I between India and Windies, Indian captain Virat Kohli decided to field first after winning the toss. Windies batsmen dominated in the first innings and scored 207/5 (20 overs). Apart from Hetmyer (56) and Pollard (37), opener Evin Lewis (40 off 17 balls), Brandon King (31 off 23 balls) and Jason Holder (24 not out off 9 balls) also played some good knocks.
