Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur: A Dramatic Draw Create Difficulties For Both Teams In The Title Race! 1

From 2-0 behind, Tottenham Hotspur made a dramatic comeback to draw against the hosts Manchester City. In this exciting match, all goals were scored in the second half as the hosts were deprived of a penalty and EPL debutant Gabriel Jesus’ goal was caught offside.

With one goal each from Leroy Sane (49’) and Kevin De Bruyne (54’), City took a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Dele Alli brought back the visitors with a goal on 58 minutes while Son Heung-Min levelled the scoreline on 77 minutes. Just before Son’s goal, City was denied a penalty as Sterling was pushed into the penalty box.

In the addition, EPL debutant 19-years old Gabriel Jesus’ (Manchester City) goal late in the match was disallowed due to an offside. At the end of the match, the visitors snatched a point while the hosts lost their two deserving points.

After sharing a point each, Tottenham (46 points in 22 matches) retained their second place in the points table. Spurs are six points behind table leaders Chelsea (52 points in 21 matches) while City missed a chance to cut Chelsea’s lead. City are at 5th place in the points table with 43 points (22 matches).

Despite the first half ending in a goalless draw, hosts City dominated all over the park in that half. An aggressive attitude from the hosts resulted in 11 shots for them, however, only 4 out of those were on target. There were some really good chances for the hosts to open the scoreline in that half.

On the other hand, Spurs were able to take only 2 shots in the first half but both went off target.

However, the real drama of the match was in the second half.

Finally, City’s wait was over early in the second half. Just 4 minutes in the second half, Sane broke the deadlock for the hosts. De Bruyne delivered a great ball for Sane which Spurs goalie (Hugo Lloris) went to charge the ball. But Lloris’ header hit Sane’s chest as Sane beat the visitors’ goalie and then successfully finished the move to give City 1-0 lead.

Just 5 minutes later, De Bruyne extended hosts’ lead to 2-0 thanks to Lloris, as the French goalie failed to take Sterling’s cross in front of De Bruyne who just pushed the ball towards the goal.

Spurs made a comeback in the match after Dele Ali broke the deadlock for his team just 4 minutes later of De Bruyne’s goal. Despite making contact with a header, City’s defender Kolarov was unable to stop Kyle Walker’s beautiful cross which Ali sent into the goal with a smashing header.

However, that goal couldn’t distract City from the game as they were still aggressive on the field. On 76 minutes, City was denied a deserving penalty. De Bruyne delivered a good ball for Sterling who was pushed by Walker in the penalty box, as a result Sterling lost his balance on the ball. It was a clear bookable offence as the host should have had a penalty kick for that, but referee totally neglected that. It stood a huge turning point of the match.

In the very next minute Spurs equalised the scoreline from Son Heung-Min’s goal. That goal was a result of a great team work from Spurs. Eriksen made a pass to Harry Kane who pushed the ball towards Son as Son finished successfully and made the scoreline 2-2.

Late in the match, 19-year old City’s Gabriel Jesus stole the attraction in the match. Making EPL debut in this match, Jesus came on the field as a substitute player (replaced Raheem Sterling) in the 82nd minute.

Making a good impression, Jesus almost scored a memorable goal just two minutes into his appearance but he was caught offside as that goal was denied at the end. Jesus netted the ball successfully from De Bruyne’s through ball but Jesus was correctly caught on offside by the linesman as the goal was disallowed at the end.

Till the end, City tried hard for the winning goal but failed to get that. Finally, both the team shared a point each as the match ended a 2-2 draw.
