Dolph Ziggler confronted WWE Champion Drew McIntyre on this week’s WWE RAW and demanded a rematch from him even after losing to him at The Horror Show At Extreme Rules via clean pinfall. The champion accepted the challenge and he will now face Ziggler, next week in a stipulation of his choosing. He will also reveal the stipulation only when the match happens.

Apparently, this segment between Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler could have aired due to changes in plans. WWE aired the post Extreme Rules episode of WWE RAW, this week bringing all the fallouts from the bygone pay-per-view event.

It was noted that the original script for the show had to be torn apart as Vince McMahon called for some big changes. They taped two episodes for the red brand, but left off one big angle to air, as per early plans.

Dave Meltzer via Wrestling Observer Radio noted that the original plan for this week’s WWE RAW was to begin the much-rumored Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton feud. But WWE dropped the plan for it.

“The big item on the show was originally to be an angle involving Orton and Drew McIntyre to set up their planned WWE Championship match as the main event for SummerSlam. As of this morning, that was still on the show, but numerous other items have been changed.”

It was noted that Dolph Ziggler coming down to the ring and challenge Drew McIntyre for a rematch for next week was a way to stop the speculated angle to happen. Randy Orton was also busy with the Big Show in an Unsanctioned main event match which he won with authority. Thus, he still remains in the top heel’s position who could face the WWE Champion at the biggest of the summer.

The source noted how WWE is using these Extreme Rules rematches (Asuka will also face Sasha Banks in a rematch for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship, next week) to boost RAW’s ratings.
