This week on Smackdown, we have learned that WWE added another matchup to the Summerslam match card. Dolph Ziggler will face The Miz at the show which we got to know through a backstage promo without much of shenanigans. There’s a reason behind it as the actual lineup may witness a big change as per breaking news courtesy of Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer noted that WWE announcing The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler was a ‘red herring’ which must be changing. Despite the announcement on Smackdown, these two names will not face each other considering that they have faced each other on several occasions in their career. So this match won’t be an added attraction to the audience.
It's a red herring. https://t.co/JEKuXYG4yG

Instead, Meltzer added that Dolph Ziggler will have a match at the pay-per-view, but it will not be against The Miz. He also added that Ziggler will not be facing Shawn Michaels either, despite him attacking Michaels on last week’s episode of SmackDown Live. Hence, a surprise name will be there to take on the multiple time Intercontinental Champion.
The veteran pro-wrestling journalist would then go on to give us a piece of breaking news that stated it is actually Bill Goldberg who will be facing Dolph Ziggler at Summerslam. It comes as a huge surprise after we received the rumor-killer on the same match. Here’s what Meltzer stated,
“Even though they announced Miz – and I don’t know how they are going to get to it – it is, in fact, Bill Goldberg.”
WWE has already planted the seeds of this matchup as Dolph Ziggler has gone to blast the WWE legend with nasty comments prior to Summerslam. The main reason behind those promos was the Super ShowDown contest between Goldberg and The Undertaker that turned out to be an utter failure. The former WCW franchise knocked himself out during the match, making it a botch-feast.
Most of the fans do believe that it won’t be a smart decision for Goldberg to ever step foot back inside a squared circle for a match. But a Hall of Famer name like him won’t go away without a remarkable matchup. He also stated on Twitter that his only goal is to erase the feeling he had from his last performance. So it’s no wonder why the former Universal Champion will lace up his boots for one more match, at least.
