Former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar has praised Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper, Rohit Sharma as the five-time champions side win against Sunrisers Hyderabad ( SRH), now in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, MI has won three games in a row with the last match by 14 runs, Gavaskar also praised Sharma gesture of hugging Arjun Tendulkar after he picked his maiden IPL wicket.
Sunil Gavaskar thinks Rohit Sharma has well-managed Mumbai Indians’ young players –
“Look at the way he was encouraging, he went on and gave him a hug to Arjun Tendulkar. Getting a hug from a captain, who is a 10-12 years your senior is a huge thing. It shows that the captain, thinks highly of you, trusts in you and he wants you to succeed,” said the Ex-Indian skipper.
Arjun, who got the opportunity to play back-to-back games for MI, ended his second game with a figure of 1/18 in 2.5 overs against SRH. And, the one wicket he picked was of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, where Sharma took the catch of Kumar in the covers, and after taking the catch, the MI skipper quickly gave high fives to the 23-year-old seamer and hugged him for taking his 1st IPL wicket.
A special moment for young Arjun Tendulkar, who gets his first wicket in #TATAIPL and it is his captain Rohit Sharma, who takes the catch of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

“What Rohit Sharma does as captain, he gives the players a relaxed feeling, much in the mould of super cool MSD (Dhoni). Maybe, not quite there. Occasionally he gets a bit upset with lapses in fielding. But it’s a totally relaxed fielding. I guess that’s the mood in the dressing room,” he further added.
While the 35-year-old has been the most successful skipper in IPL with 5-titles, he has been leading the MI side since 2013, after his impressive record in IPL, he was promoted for captaining the Indian side for limited overs cricket, and as Virat Kohli stepped down from Test skipper post in 2022, he also leads the Indian side in the longer format of the game.
With pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Jhye Richardson and Jofra Archer on the injury list for this season, it was important for Rohit Sharma-led side that their young pacer like Arjun comes up to the rescue for their side. Now, for their sixth game of the season, MI will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 22 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
