Women’s championship picture on Smackdown abruptly changed two weeks ago. The return of Charlotte Flair forced the General Manager of the show to reconstruct the lineup. Earlier Becky Lynch became the number one contender for the title. This set up a one-on-one contest at Summerslam against Carmella.
Charlotte Flair came back from a surgery one week later to provide back up to Becky Lynch. She was initially out to save her buddy from a beatdown of Carmella. But this inserted her in a contest against the champion. She won the match via submission to make the Summerslam contest a triple threat.
This might have made Becky Lynch furious. She was in no mood to share the spotlight with Charlotte Flair. It was after 2017 January that she received a singles title opportunity on Smackdown. They competed in a tag team match last week to get along quite well. But with Summerslam just five nights away, it should be every woman for herself.
So we had a face-off amongst Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Carmella on Smackdown Live. They got a chance to build one final momentum for Summerslam. Unfortunately for the three of them, the segment fell short to a certain extent. Only the Smackdown women’s champion looked confident with the mic in hand.
Carmella went on to point out the fact that Becky Lynch will always remain in the shadows of Charlotte Flair. She admitted that the second-generation superstar is a great champion. The only reason why Smackdown received Becky Lynch as the inaugural women’s champion as Charlotte was present on Monday Night Raw.
Charlotte backfired saying that Carmella is the only Diva residing in the women’s era. Carmella replied by saying that she is damn proud for the same. The confrontation could have bored the crowd for a long time but Paige appeared on the scene. She confirmed another tag team match featuring Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch.
They teamed up for two weeks in a row against the former members of Absolution. Charlotte and Becky Lynch were able to get along as a team and pick up the win. But the genetically superior athlete was furious over the fact that her partner finished the match. She did not let her in by making the tag.
We don’t understand why this conflict did not pick up during the match on Smackdown. This could have heated up the Summerslam title picture even more. But it remained in a dull way as both Charlotte and Becky Lynch did not show signs of any conflicts. Hopefully, they can deliver a solid matchup to overshadow this lack of buildup.
