In Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Kane Williamson will be playing his first season for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the upcoming edition. Star Indian batter Shubman Gill finished in the second spot as the highest run-getter for the defending champions in the previous edition.
The former New Zealand skipper praised the Indian opening batter as a “strong competitor” with a “great understanding of the game” in his latest statement.
Kane Williamson thinks Shubman Gill is a strong competitor-
“Shubman Gill is a really strong competitor. I am sure he will learn a lot from the number of leaders he plays under. He is a fantastic guy with a great understanding of the game,” the former Kiwi skipper said.
Gill has been hailed from all over the world for his recent performances in the International circuit. He recently scored the ton in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia.
Shubman has been in the purple patch of his career–and he has done a fine job as an opener so far. He has been in red-hot form for India in all three formats. In Test cricket, he scored 736 runs in 13 matches at an average of 32.
“It’s great to be here. Nice to meet most of the players. A couple of players are yet to come. Great to meet the management, and players, and get involved in training. Everyone’s excited for the start of the season,” he further added.
After an IPL to forget in 2022 for a star ‘Black Caps’ batter, after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finished in the 8th spot, Williamson will now be playing for GT in the 16th edition since playing for SRH from 2016 onwards.

“Whenever I come here, I experience the culture, which is completely different from where I am, I love this. Food as well. I love the food. We also cannot forget the passion they have for cricket,” concluded the 32-year-old.
New Zealand star Kane was in fine form in Tests with a stunning double century against Sri Lanka in the second Test at Wellington.
The right-handed batsman has been in stunning form in Tests in recent weeks. In December, he ended his two-year-long century drought with an unbeaten double-century against Pakistan in Karachi. It was his first century in Tests since January 2021.
While in IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will clash in the opening game of the 16th edition of the league on March 31 at Ahmedabad.
