Buildups for Backlash 2020 has just begun from this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. It is now official that WWE is moving forward with the idea of having a title match between Bobby Lashley and WWE Champion Drew McIntyre at the pay-per-view event.

The potential main event of Backlash was confirmed following a banter between the duo over on Twitter. Apart from this match, Edge also accepted the challenge laid down by Randy Orton and agreed to compete in a pure wrestling match at Backlash.
As for the WWE Championship feud, it seems like WWE is getting Bobby Lashley ready for the big match at Backlash by adding him with a manager in MVP. On Raw, we saw MVP interrupting a backstage interview with Bobby Lashley and Charly Caruso, encouraging Lashley to stop wasting time on “clowns” like R-Truth and go for the WWE Title. MVP ended by asking when Lashley will free himself, perhaps from Lana.

Bobby Lashley appeared for the match and destroyed Truth in a singles competition. MVP appeared on the stage after the match and applauded Lashley. The camera focused backstage to Lashley’s on-screen wife Lana who was seen throwing a tantrum, potentially getting worried about their relationship.

Bobby Lashley then arrived on the stage with MVP to watch the non-title main event match on Raw which witnessed Drew McIntyre defeating King Baron Corbin. Before the match, Lashley issued a warning by announcing that he was putting Drew McIntyre on notice.
These two shares staredowns during and after the match. McIntyre was heard yelling that he does want to fight Lashley and how the WWE Universe wants Lashley to step up.

Apparently, it was the initial setup for the next championship defense for Drew McIntyre at WWE Backlash. By the ongoing storyline, Bobby Lashley was already the next in line to challenge the champion for his title.
Following the confirmation of the match, it’d be after 13 years that he will be competing in a WWE title bout. The last time he competed in a WWE title match was at 2007 Great American Bash PPV against John Cena.
Previously, it looked like that WWE brought back Jinder Mahal on Raw to begin a feud with Drew McIntyre as these shares a history. Even Mahal spoke up, on his former 3MB buddy to hint the same. But that feud isn’t happening as Mahal would be a babyface superstar from now onwards and thus Bobby Lashley gets the title opportunity at Backlash. The PPV takes place on June 14, probably at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
