Revealed: Asuka’s Opponent At WWE Summerslam 2020

Asuka vs. Sasha Banks over the WWE RAW Women’s Championship ended in sheer controversy at The Horror Show At Extreme Rules 2020, this past Sunday. The referee was taken out of the equation through Asuka’s green mist after which SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley put on his referee’s shirt to act as an official by counting the pinfall on behalf of of of Sasha Banks declare her as the winner.

It stirred up controversy as no appointed referee declared the result and Bayley’s pinfall count wasn’t justified. The issue was addressed on WWE Raw when WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon appeared on the big screen and announced that RAW Women’s Champion Asuka vs. WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Sasha Banks will take place next week. The winner of that match will be crowned as the new champion from the red brand.

Stephanie noted that next week’s rematch from Extreme Rules can be decided by pinfall, submission, count-out or DQ, including outside interference. Whereas this provides a big advantage to Sasha Banks as her best friend Bayley would be standing by ringside, it looks like she won’t be able to win the title. At present, Asuka is still the champion who’d retain with authority on next week’s WWE RAW.

Then the Empress of Tomorrow will move on to face Shayna Baszler for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship at SummerSlam. As seen in this past episode, the former NXT Women’s Champion was interested in the Women’s Title picture who was observing the situation from backstage.

She recently returned to the flagship show for the sole reason of entering the title picture as there’s a lack of opponents for Asuka on Raw.

The Wrestling Observer additionally reported that WWE Raw Women’s Title Match match at Extreme Rules was originally set to finish with Asuka defeating Banks via clean pinfall. Vince McMahon changed plans at the last moment as he wanted to get fans to tune into this week’s RAW.

The ratings for the show have been very low for weeks now (RAW drew its lowest viewership ever last week) and he wanted to change it with some controversial act. The rematch was announced due to the same reason where they can gain more viewers to the show.
