It’s incredible to think that Rey Mysterio is one of the only few names from the Ruthless Aggression Era of WWE who is still continuing his career in the WWE.

Randy Orton is the only other name who is in contract with the WWE to make regular appearances on WWE’s TV programming. Whereas Orton has ensured his stay with WWE for five more years, the situation is pretty different in the case of Rey Mysterio.

He also has an out clause in the contract at the 18-month mark as well which may confirm his exit, earlier than expected given he is not happy with how things are going for him on Monday Night RAW. The decision lies on his hands, entirely.

No information is available at this point whether a new contract has been offered to him or being discussed. Chances are pretty high that Rey Mysterio is planning to wrap up his time in WWE once the current deal expires in October. WWE doesn’t usually keep special things in-store for aging superstars and Rey Mysterio knows that better than anyone else.

If Rey Mysterio signs a new deal with the company then he could end up being a jobber for the younger generation. But there’s no surety if WWE is interested to offer him a deal, at all especially after the huge budget cut due to Coronavirus pandemic costing more than fifty talents, their job in mid-April. So any of the upcoming storylines in WWE may appear to be the final one for him in the company.

Before going into the sunset, Rey Mysterio wanted to help his son Dominick to get established in the WWE. His son appeared in some of the angles with him over the past couple of years, but then WWE wrote him off television after Survivor Series 2019.

In a recent interview with The Bump, Rey Mysterio wanted to put his iconic mask on the line in his final WWE match,

“If the opportunity came about, I would jump in a heartbeat [on putting his mask on the line again]. I think that’s what makes Lucha Libre exciting and in this case to bring Lucha Libre to the WWE, and show the WWE Universe the excitement behind the mask vs. hair match, or the mask vs. title match. You know you put your heart out there in those matches. I would actually love to jump in the ring one of these days before I retire and put my mask on the line against something that is well worth it.” (courtesy ringsidenews.com)
