WWE Extreme Rules 2020: Top 5 Matches To Be On The PPV Card

The final WWE pay-per-view event before 2020 SummerSlam, will take place at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida on July 19th in the form of Extreme Rules. This is one night of the year where most of the matches take place under different gimmicks making it one of the most popular nights of the year.

After a pleasant experience with 2020 Backlash via the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, WWE will be looking forward to delivering a great Extreme Rules, too which could set up the tone for SummerSlam. Thus, we believe the below mentioned five matches will grace the PPV match card to bring a unique experience for the fans.

Seth Rollins vs. Rey Mysterio – No Holds Barred

Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio have been involved in a feud ever since Rollins left the veteran with a concussed eye. They have been trading words at each other for the past few weeks that should end when Mysterio comes back to Raw, next week.

Mysterio and his son Dominik both should show up on RAW to confront Rollins to get things physical. Mysterio promised Rollins that he’ll be executing a 619 on Rollins when he returns.

A singles bout between these two is evident to happen at Extreme Rules. Considering how much bad blood these two possess, a “No Holds Barred” match is the best way to culminate the heated rivalry.

AJ Styles (c) vs. Sami Zayn – Intercontinental Championship Match

AJ Styles won his first Intercontinental Championship by defeating Daniel Bryan in the final match of the Intercontinental Championship tournament last week on SmackDown.

In this upcoming episode of SmackDown, he’ll be throwing a celebration in honor of his victory that also might begin the search of his next challenger. Rumors have it that the former Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn is all set to return on TV, to claim back the gold. He was the one to be stripped off the title, which led to Styles winning it.

Zayn already sent a cryptic warning to the new Intercontinental Champion on Twitter, which could be a hint that he’s going to feud with the new champion when he returns. Thus, the IC title bout seems almost confirmed for Extreme Rules as a rematch with Daniel Bryan would be repetitive.

The New Day (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro – SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match

The New Day retained their Titles in a Fatal-4-Way match at Money In The Bank last month. Since then, they are without an opponent and didn’t get a chance to compete at Backlash.

The expected feud with The Forgotten Sons after Money In The Bank was scrapped due to recent racism controversies around the USA. It led Jaxson Ryker and his two brothers to be taken off TV for the time being. So, the champions received new opponents.

Last week on SmackDown, Kofi Kingston and Big E faced Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro in a Tag Team match. The match ended as Nakamura pinned Kofi to win the match. Thus, the heel duo can now claim a title shot that should be granted at Extreme Rules 2020.

Apollo Crews (c) vs. Angel Garza vs. Kevin Owens vs. Andrade – Fatal-4-Way United States Championship Match

Apollo Crews has vowed to become a strong United States Champion who successfully retained his title against Andrade on the of Backlash 2020 kick-off show. The feud with Andrade seems to be over, as he’ll be looking forward to his next challenger.

In the meantime, Andrade and his Tag Team partner Angel Garza has raised some bad blood between themselves. Kevin Owens has also been involved in the angle who indirectly helped Crews to retain at Backlash. Prior to that,

Andrade and Garza also cost Owens his Title shot against Crews by interrupting a match, earlier this month on Raw. This indicates a multi-person match at Extreme Rules as WWE might just put them together with the title hanging in the balance.

Braun Strowman (c) vs. Sheamus – Universal Championship Match

Braun Strowman defeated John Morrison and The Miz in a 2-On-1 Handicap match at Backlash to retain his Universal Championship. The current plan is to let him drop the title to “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam 2020. But he has to defend the title in a one-off feud at Extreme Rules against a heel star.

At Backlash, Sheamus defeated Jeff Hardy with a clean pinfall that automatically sets him up for the contender’s spot as he can be considered as a top heel. While the rivalry against Hardy has ended, The Celtic Warrior most probably be eyeing Strowman and his Universal title at Extreme Rules.
