WWE News: Asuka Defended Her Women’s Championship On Smackdown

Some of the fans were really sad that Becky Lynch lost the Smackdown women’s championship at WWE TLC. Considering her popularity, it was sad to see her dropping the title at the earliest. But the fans can be assured that the title has gone to the safe hands of Asuka. Nobody deserved that title more than her who now looks forward to delivering a dominant championship reign.

The process started from last night onwards where Asuka dared to defend her Smackdown women’s championship. It was just her inaugural night on the show where we expected to receive a coronation. But the Empress of Tomorrow was ready to lock horns with somebody. So the McMahon, in charge did not hesitate to sanction a title match on the show.

Asuka threw an open challenge to the Smackdown women’s locker room to grab a title opportunity. Vince McMahon was the originator of the idea to have a title match in the opening segment of the night. Naomi came out to square off against the new champion and thereby trying to regain the Smackdown women’s championship for the third time in her career.

The match started in a quick-fire note with both these incredible performers. Asuka gained the upper hand locking in several submission holds like the chokehold and the Ankle Lock. Naomi got out of the ring somehow and took control hitting a spin-kick to the face of Asuka. Dragging Asuka back into the ring, Naomi successfully executed the rear-view. But Asuka stayed alive in the match.

Naomi hit the top ropes trying to hit the shooting star-press on Asuka who moved out of the way. Naomi landed hard on the mat allowing Asuka to lock in the Asuka Lock to digest a submission loss. This marked a solid women’s championship defense by the Empress of Tomorrow on Smackdown.

This halted the momentum a bit for Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch who are ready to take on Ronda Rousey. After what happened at TLC, they will be eyeing ‘the baddest woman on the planet’ for the next several weeks. But for now, Becky will have the opportunity to gain back her title. She still owes a rematch against the women’s champion. Hopefully, McMahons allow her to have the title match within or at Royal Rumble.
