Fans were shocked to learn that Roman Reigns is dealing with a life threat. He is patient of Leukemia, since 22 years of age. His strong will power forced to put it into remission for over a decade. Unfortunately, it was back after 11 years while he is a WWE superstar. As a result, he had to vacate the Universal Championship as well as the top spot on Monday Night Raw.
It was one of the saddest moments in the history of this show as Roman Reigns announced his battle with Leukemia. We did not have any early hint of the same which is why the fans were in awe. They could not believe their ears as the prime babyface figure was leaving the show. Currently, treatment has begun to cure the disease.
A former WWE superstar who has the similar kind of experience noted in this situation, recently. WWE Hall of Famer, Edge had to take retirement from in-ring competition just like the Big Dog. He was also carrying the world heavyweight championship back then. But a life-threatening neck injury did not allow him to defend the championship anymore.
It was perhaps the most emotional retirement speeches that Edge delivered while saying goodbye to the WWE Universe. He recently talked to Sports Illustrated speaking about Roman Reigns dealing with Leukemia. Although they both faced life threats, Roman’s case is far different than him. Here are the comments,
“I had to retire due to injury, but in this case, we’re talking life or death. This is leukemia, a thing you don’t expect to hear from a guy who is in the prime of his career and looks like a superhero. The first thing I felt when I heard the news was sad, but I don’t think Roman wants people to feel that way.
“I feel for him, but the best thing he can do is surround himself with his family, and that’s what he’s doing. As long as he gets healthy, who cares if he ever wrestles again? I watched him on Raw and thought that moment had to be really, really difficult, but he handled it with poise and class.”
Edge could feel the way that Roman Reigns is going through right now. He himself has gone through the same phase after taking hiatus from retirement. But the Samoan family should be his pillars of strength. This is why the former Universal Champ is still very much confident about ‘whopping Leukemia’s a**’.
Roman Reigns had a recent public appearance during Georgia Tech Game. He did not reflect any sort of negativity at all hinting the quickest return in the WWE. However, it is a long process that is likely to go beyond 2019. We should not expect him to be back until 2020. This is just a rough assumption at this point since there is no concrete timeline for the comeback.
