The 24/7 Championship has been a coveted prize for the mid-card telnets in the WWE ever since WWE introduced it, last month. After an initial fan backlash around the title made for the jobbers, interest grew around the belt and the credit goes to none other than R-Truth. He has been holding the title for a long time except for some sporadic takeaways by a couple of superstars.
But last night, he was unable to close Smackdown with the 24/7 Championship in his hand. R-Truth was in the parking lot when he saw someone resembling Carmella standing there. As he approached there, he realized that it was Drake Maverick who dressed as her partner. So he tried to take him down with an elbow. But Maverick rolled him for the three-count.
With this, Drake Maverick’s run for weeks to get his hand on the 24/7 Championship has finally come true. He seemed desperate to take the title away from R-Truth and constantly chased him down for weeks including the WANTED posters for the champion. Last night was a golden opportunity for him as R-Truth was already exhausted by competing in another match, earlier on Smackdown. Even WWE.com hinted that there might be a title change in this capacity,
“R-Truth has made it out of some sticky situations while holding the 24/7 Championship, whether it was on the golf course, a flight over the Red Sea or being stuck in an elevator with his fellow Superstars. With dozens of Superstars consistently on the hunt for him at all hours, will Truth make it through another night as 24/7 Champion?”
There’s no denying that R-Truth is the prime reason why the 24/7 Championship has become the most interesting title in present WWE. Now that he does not have it anymore, it’ll be interesting to see how the storyline progresses around the new 24/7 Champion. The funny thing is Truth still believes that Carmella was the one to pin him and steal the title! So the hilarious antics around the title should continue.
