Hours of speculation around the future of Roman Reigns on Smackdown came to an end on last night’s edition that witnessed fallouts from Superstar Shakeup. A punch to Vince McMahon did not cost him much in the end as he will now have to feature in a match at Money in the Bank pay-per-view. It will be a fresh lineup where The Big Dog takes on The Drifter, Elias in a singles capacity for the first time.
Smackdown kicked off with Shane McMahon who addressed the elephant in the room i.e. the Roman Reigns controversy from last week. He aired video footage from last week to show us how the poster boy of the company targeted the CEO of a Billion Dollar Company. So he must pay the penalty. He ordered Reigns to come out right there and face him like a man. One half of The Shield came out trying to enter a physical confrontation.
However, Elias came from behind and planted Roman Reigns with a Drift Away. Shane and Elias hammered away on the downed superstar before walking out of the ring. Later in a backstage segment, Elias challenged Roman Reigns in a match at Money in the Bank before leaving the arena with Shane McMahon. The Big Dog accepted that quickly to confirm his first singles PPV match following Wrestlemania 35.
Roman Reigns entered the blue brand of WWE for the first time ever on last week’s Superstar Shakeup. WWE hyped up the episode saying that it would be the biggest acquisition in the history of Smackdown Live. Vince McMahon himself appeared on the show to make the announcement regarding the huge import that blue brand was about to receive. Surprisingly, he dropped the name of Elias instead of Reigns.
This made the Big Dog irate who made his way down to the ring and hit Elias with a Superman Punch right into the mouth. Mr. McMahon was the next target for him as another punch to the mouth was waiting for him. Roman Reigns finally delivered a mammoth spear on Elias to end the segment. But the question was running rampant whether the move of hitting McMahon on the mouth was a right decision for WWE’s poster boy.
WWE.com itself indicated that a major fallout was waiting for Roman Reigns on this week’s episode of Smackdown Live. McMahon could have even fired him for his misdeeds from last week. The Big Dog commented on this during the Shield’s Final Chapter on this past weekend making the stakes high for this week’s Smackdown. However, McMahon was not present on the show and all his son ensured was to arrange a match between him and Elias at Money in the Bank.
