WWE Smackdown Preview (19/06/20): AJ Styles’ Celebration; Mandy Rose-Miz TV; Bray Wyatt
Jun 19, 2020 at 1:49 PM
Tonight marks the first episode of Friday Night SmackDown following the Backlash pay-per-view event which ensures that we will be seeing major fallouts from the bygone show. It should be an eventful night where the reigning men and women’s division champions should move into fresh storylines to hint their next opponents over their titles.
The new Intercontinental Champion AJ Styles will throw a celebration where Daniel Bryan was invited as a guest. The Miz TV will be back with the special guest Mandy Rose. Bray Wyatt returns on SmackDown with a new Firefly Funhouse segment whereas Matt Riddle makes his much-anticipated main-roster debut when the show airs from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

Braun Strowman successfully defended his Universal Championship against The Miz and John Morrison in a Handicap Match at Backlash. Now he looks forward to his next opponent who should be the top heel of the SmackDown roster. Sheamus is currently standing on this spot after earning a clean pinfall win over Jeff Hardy. It is likely that these two men might face off to begin the new title feud.

On a related note, Bray Wyatt isn’t gone from the Universal Title picture, totally. He is coming back, this week to probably hint his next target that could be the Universal Champion. If that is the case then chances are high that Wyatt vs. Strowman will go down at Extreme Rules 2020 in a rematch from Money In The Bank 2020.
WWE is promoting Matt Riddle’s main roster debut with vignettes from the past couple of weeks. He has wrestled his final match on NXT and coming on SmackDown to be a part of the blue brand. The inside belief is that Riddle can be considered as a future star who should be given a food push upon arrival. So it’ll be interesting to see how WWE plans his debut night.
Last week, AJ Styles defeated Daniel Bryan in the Intercontinental Championship tournament finale via clean pinfall to win the prestigious title for the first time. Being a heel on SmackDown, he continued bragging about the win and also planned to throw a celebration, tonight.
He also decided to invite Bryan during this celebration which indicates that perhaps a rematch between these two is waiting, somewhere down the line.
SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley is without any opponent for her singles title since Money In The Bank passed by as she’s focused on defending the Women’s Tag Team Championships with Sasha Banks, instead. But it seems Bayley will defend the belt at Extreme Rules.
But for this to happen, the champion first needs a suitable opponent. It seems like a fresh opponent like Dana Brooke or a veteran like Alexa Bliss could be gunning for the next title opportunity.
Mandy Rose is having quite the good times on SmackDown as she is accompanying Mr. Money In The Bank Otis, playing her love interest. Now she might have to focus on speaking out on their relationship as she will be appearing on a controversial talk-show.
The Miz and John Morrison will be back with their talk-show where The Golden Goddess will be the special guest. Could the hosts be instigating Mandy to go against Otis? We’ll find out when SmackDown airs with its latest episode.
