WWE Summerslam 2020: Huge Title Change Rumored To Happen

WWE is currently focusing on The Horror Show at Extreme Rules in July, at this point. But they’re likely to set up the groundworks for SummerSlam that takes place on August 23rd, which is the biggest party of the summer and the second biggest pay-per-view event of WWE calendar. So a huge main event is expected to go down on the show.
At present, The Horror Show at Extreme Rules will see Drew McIntyre defending the WWE Championship against Dolph Ziggler. It’s assumed that McIntyre will successfully defend his title against the Show Off who’s being put against his former tag team partner just to put him over. Thus The Scottish Psychopath is all set to enter SummerSlam as the champion.

The rumor is that Randy Orton will be facing Drew McIntyre for the WWE Title at SummerSlam which is an intriguing idea. If Orton wins the gold, then it could set up a championship opportunity for returning Edge who’s hell-bent on seeking revenge. He’d eventually return from a triceps injury to compete in the third match. However, no plan is set in stone, as of now.

As for SummerSlam, WWE always wanted to hold the event outside Florida with a live audience. But the current situation caused due to the Coronavirus pandemic isn’t allowing them to do so. The show was originally scheduled to take place in Boston, but the state won’t allow any public gatherings until the second week of September.
So, WrestleVotes has reported that WWE’s plan for SummerSlam to have a live crowd has already been scrapped. Now the company is aiming to bring back the fans by the end of September.
“Being told with SummerSlam off the table, WWE is now aiming for the end of September as a restart for live audiences. TBD.”
Meanwhile, there’s a chance to see Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton as the main event if the future return match with Edge is on the cards involving the WWE Championship. Ringsidenews.com has reported that Vince McMahon is currently focused on only the Horror Show at Extreme Rules booking. He has not sanctioned any of the matches for SummerSlam, yet. So the actual card of the show could see big changes in the future.
