We received an open challenge on last night’s Smackdown courtesy of our WWE Champion, Kofi Kingston. The assumptions were that Smackdown locker room will get an opportunity to become the new number one contender for the title match at Summerslam. However, Kofi surprised us by calling out Randy Orton, specifically. He wanted to face this man only considering the history between these two.

Ten years ago, he defeated Randy Orton in Madison Square garden that should have been the biggest break of his life. But instead, Orton received all the chances and cemented his legacy in the WWE. At Summerslam, Kofi Kingston wants to turn the tides by defeating The Viper for the very first time. Orton took the least time to accept the challenge and confirm the title match on August 11th. He added spoiler saying Kofi’s fairytale run will come to an end via an RKO at Summerslam.

WWE Championship picture was going to be the prime focus heading into this week’s Smackdown. The champion Kofi Kingston did not have a challenger with just three weeks remaining for the next pay-per-view event Summerslam. A strong champion like him could not resist waiting until WWE comes up with an authoritative decision. So he issues an open challenge on the show as confirmed by WWE.com,
“After being confronted by Randy Orton, Elias, and Samoa Joe last week, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston isn’t waiting for anyone to step up and challenge him at The Biggest Event of Summer. Kingston intends to issue his own challenge to a Superstar to face him at SummerSlam tonight. Will Kofi choose one of the Superstars that stepped to him last week or test his mettle elsewhere?”

Now, we did receive a hint of new number one contender for WWE Championship on this past week’s episode of Smackdown Live. Randy Orton became the first superstar to pin Kofi Kingston during his championship reign. This was a clear-cut message that The Viper was coming after the Dreadlocked Dynamo. Our assumptions became true when Kofi himself confirmed his name as the new challenger.
