On last week’s episode of Smackdown Live, we have witnessed an unlikely alliance taking on the two current besties on the roster. It was the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley and number one contender Ember Moon going up against Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross. In a shocking end to the match, the latter duo turned out to be the winners.

Alexa Bliss pinned Moon in a clean way that was indeed surprising. Usually, a superstar pins a reigning champion or the contender when she is coming after the title. In this case, Moon suffered the loss just prior to 32nd annual Summerslam fuelling up the rumors whether WWE is changing the title match lineup on the PPV night that would include The Goddess of the WWE.

At this point, the Smackdown women’s championship match is set at Summerslam where Bayley defends against Ember Moon in a singles contest. If WWE does intend to use the pinfall win of Alexa Bliss into a storyline angle then she should get added to the contest making it a triple threat. Bringing her into the title picture will benefit WWE since she is one of the best marketable players, too.
However, a trusted source hinted that there won’t be any such change on the Summerslam title match for the Smackdown women’s championship. On an edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, we learned the actual reason behind Alexa Bliss picking up the win which is pretty amusing. Apparently, the brand rivalry between Raw and Smackdown was the factor that came into play.
On the bygone episode of Smackdown, there were three inter-brand matches on the show. Kevin Owens defeated Drew McIntyre whereas Kofi Kingston defeated AJ Styles which means two Smackdown superstars pinned, two Raw superstars. So a Raw superstar had to pick up a win so that the win count seems one to two at least removing chance of a clean sweep for the blue brand.
So Alexa Bliss successfully pinned Moon by hitting a “Twisted Bliss” off the top rope. But that was nothing to do with the championship storyline of Summerslam. Despite the Wild Card Rule being intact, it looks like, WWE officials are keeping track of the win or loss percentage of both the brans which means the brands could be separate in future. As for Little Miss Bliss, she is likely to get a shot at the women’s tag team championships.
