Daniel Vettori Feels Adam Milne Or Chris Jordan Will Get A Game As Overseas Pacers May Replace Injured Indian Pacer Deepak Chahar

Daniel Vettori said Deepak Chahar’s absence will be a “huge loss” for the CSK and further believes that the team can only replace the Indian pacer with an overseas bowler. The speculation over Deepak Chahar’s fitness has kept the Chennai Super Kings fans on edge over the past few weeks.

The Indian pacer, who was bought back by the CSK for a whopping amount of INR 14 crore in the IPL mega auction last month, was forced to miss India’s last limited-overs assignment at home against Sri Lanka, where the side registered a 3-0 series win.

It was initially reported that Deepak Chahar is set to miss the first couple of weeks of the tournament; however, there has been no official confirmation for the same. In a discussionformer New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori, Aakash Chopra, and Wasim Jaffer discussed the issue surrounding Deepak Chahar in detail.

Daniel Vettori Feels Adam Milne Or Chris Jordan Will Get A Game As Overseas Pacers May Replace Deepak Chahar

Daniel Vettori believes that the defending champions can only replace the Indian pacer with an overseas bowler, meaning either Chris Jordan or Adam Milne will play resulting in opening batter Devon Conway’s snub.

“If he does (miss the start of the season), it is going to be a huge loss,” said Daniel Vettori. “I think they will have to reconfigure their overseas bowlers. Adam Milne can get a game.. Chris Jordan as well.”

“Those two overseas bowlers could potentially come in. That would mean someone like Conway misses out and they would have to bring Uthappa in. I don’t think they can replace him with a domestic bowler, they will have to replace him with an international bowler.”

When asked to name one bowler who can replace Deepak Chahar, Daniel Vettori named Adam Milne.

“I think it’d be Adam Milne. His performance has been exceptional around the world. I think Milne could be more destructive, can swing the ball,” said Daniel Vettori.

The 25-year-old opener Ruturaj Gaikwad had to undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and joined the ongoing pre-season camp of CSK in Surat on Wednesday (March 16).

Wasim Jaffer Feels MS Dhoni Will Be Giving Confidence To Youngsters While Aakash Chopra Reckons CSK Would Tinker With The Playing XI

Wasim Jaffer believes that MS Dhoni is likely to place his faith on youngsters to fill in for Deepak Chahar.

“I think MS Dhoni will be giving confidence to younger guys. Whether it be Tushar Deshpande or Simranjeet Singh who bowls for Delhi in Powerplay. Mukesh Choudhary bowls at a decent pace,” said Jaffer.

Aakash Chopra, meanwhile, added that it isn’t necessary CSK need to replace Deepak Chahar with a similar wicket-taking bowler up-front.

“If there was a replacement, he wouldn’t have gone on 14 crore, so that is as simple as it is. Yes, you’re going to be missing a lot of wickets in Powerplay overs, but is that the only way to succeed in a T20 game? It is an important component, you pick up early wickets and you get a fantastic start. But isn’t there a different formula to succeed? That is what the CSK would be thinking about,” said Aakash.

Deepak Chahar had re-joined Chennai Super Kings for a mega sum of Rs 14 crores. He emerged as the 2nd costliest pick of the IPL 2022 mega auction and drew bids from as many as 4 franchises.  Apart from CSK, Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) were keen to get his services.

Deepak Chahar will be available to play the IPL after all. It was learnt that the pacer won’t have to undergo surgery, as suggested initially, following a quadricep tear that he sustained during the limited-overs series against West Indies. It’s understood that the CSK pacer is likely to be fit to play by the middle of April. He is expected to miss the first half of IPL 2022 due to a right quadriceps injury.
Deepak Chahar suffered a hamstring issue during the 3rd T20I against West Indies on February 20. The right-arm pacer was completing the 2nd over of his spell when he stopped midway. Apart from Deepak Chahar, Ambati Rayudu (₹6.75 crores) and Dwayne Bravo (₹4.4 crores) were CSK’s most prized picks at the auction.
Shivam Dube (₹4 crores) and Chris Jordan (₹3.6 crores) were the only other players that cost them more than two crores. CSK had re-signed the likes of Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, and Mitchell Santner.

Dwayne Bravo Reveals He And Ambati Rayudu Were Ribbing Each Other During IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Dwayne Bravo revealed that he and another CSK star were ribbing each other while the event IPL 2022 mega auction was taking place. The Chennai Super Kings, the second most successful team in the history of IPL, was able to retain most of their core team from the previous editions as they settled on a 25-member squad for the IPL 2022.

Having retained four players in MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK spent a whopping amount of money to acquire 21 players, the most expensive of which was Deepak Chahar for 14 crores.

While CSK lost out on bringing back their superstars from last year such as Faf du Plessis, they did manage to bring back the likes of Robin Uthappa, Dwayne Bravo, and Ambati Rayudu.

However, the last three were picked during the final stages of the auction and Dwayne Bravo revealed that he and another CSK star were ribbing each other while the event was taking place.

“I am his biggest nightmare. We both were messaging each other on Instagram throughout the entire auction process and the build-up to the auction. ‘Oh, you’re going to go unsold.

“No one is going to buy you.’ All these rubbish talks with each other. But we both wanted to be back in CSK and I know he was happy for me, I was happy for him that we are going to be back again,” Bravo told CSK, a video of which was shared by the franchise’s Twitter handle.

Both Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo will be keen to help CSK repeat their IPL 2021 success this year. On the flip side, however, the franchise will miss the services of all-rounder Deepak Chahar for the majority of the IPL 2022 season due to injury.

Dwayne Bravo Revealed Ambati Rayudu Didn’t Want To Represent Any Other Franchise Barring Chennai Super Kings

He further revealed that Ambati Rayudu, who played an instrumental part in CSK winning the IPL title in 2018, did not want to represent any other franchise barring the Yellow Army.

“Amba did not want to play for another franchise. He irritates me too much now so I am going to stay away from him. We’re going to fight again as normal this season. As long as we keep fighting and keep winning, that’s important,” mentioned Bravo.

Deepak Chahar is in doubt for IPL 2022. A source hinted that the hamstring issue could rule him out of the extravagant T20 league. He had joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a mega sum of Rs 14 crore-their most valued acquisition. They also re-signed the likes of Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, and Mitchell Santner.

The forthcoming edition of the IPL 2022 will open with a match between four-time champions and IPL 2021 defending champions Chennai Super Kings and two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on March 26. It will be a rematch between the two teams that contested IPL 2021 finals.

The Auction Feels Like An Examination, You Feel Like Commodity: Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa, the former India batsman has opened up on what goes through the mind of a cricketer during an Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, where a player’s value becomes about how much somebody is willing to spend on you.

During the recent IPL mega auction, defending champions Chennai Super Kings re-signed Robin Uthappa for his base price of Rs 2 crore. The explosive batsman had chipped in with valuable innings in last season’s playoffs after being given a chance late in CSK’s campaign in the UAE following Suresh Raina’s poor form.

Robin Uthappa Opines That It’s Not A Most Pleasing Feeling To See IPL Auctions And Wants A More Respectful Draft System Instead

Robin Uthappa vitally scored 63 off 44 balls during the first Qualifier followed by a knock of 31 off 15 in the final to beat Kolkata Knight Riders. While Robin Uthappa admitted that he and his family had hoped that he would go back to CSK, the 36-year-old candidly spoke of how vulnerable a player can be while watching their name come up at an IPL auction.

“Playing for a team like CSK was something I desired, it was one of my only prayers: let’s get back to CSK. My family, even my son, prayed for that, which is special for me. I’m happy to be back in a place where there’s a sense of security and a sense of respect,” Uthappa, who played 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is for India between 2006 and 2015, said.

Robin Uthappa opened up about his own fight with depression, battling suicidal thoughts and wanting to quit cricket at the height of his career. As elated as he was to have found a spot in CSK’s roster, Robin Uthappa advocated for the IPL to shift to a draft system rather than the auctions.

“The auction feels like an examination which you have written a long time ago, and you’re just awaiting the results. You feel like cattle (commodity), to be honest,” he said.

“It’s not the most pleasing feeling, and I think that’s the thing about cricket, especially in India… everything about you is there for the world to consume and then judge and express their opinions about it. Having an opinion about performances is one thing, but having an opinion on how much you get sold for is quite something else.”

“You can’t imagine what the guys who don’t get sold go through. My heart goes out to guys who have been there for a long time and then miss out and don’t get picked. It can be defeating sometimes.

“Suddenly your value as a cricketer becomes about how much somebody is willing to spend on you. I really hope for the sake of the sanity of everybody that this goes into a draft system where it is more respectful.”

The consistently proven match-winner, Robin Uthappa, was traded to Chennai Super Kings by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2021 Player Auction. He had joined the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2020 season and played 12 games for them. Earlier, he was one of KKR’s stars in the title-winning efforts in 2012 and 2014.

Robin Uthappa Owes Being Part Of Chennai Super Kings And He Wants To Finish His Carrier With CSK

Ahead of the IPL 2022, which begins in just over a month’s time, Robin  Uthappa is geared up for another successful season with four-time winners CSK, hoping to end his playing career with them.

“The expectation is to contribute to the success of the team,” he said. ” I love being a part of the team. I love the hard work that’s involved in it. I have this new lease wherein I want to play as much as I physically can. God-willing to finish my career with a team like CSK. “

Apart from Deepak Chahar (14 crores), Ambati Rayudu (6.75 crores) and Dwayne Bravo (4.4 crores) were CSK’s most prized picks at the auction. Shivam Dube (4 crores) and Chris Jordan (3.6 crores) were the only other players that cost them more than two crores. Chennai Super Kings bought 21 players during IPL 2022 auction.

Out of 14 seasons, the franchise CSK has played 12 as they were banned in 2016 and 2017. The team has won the trophy four times in IPL 2010, IPL 2011, IPL 2018, and IPL 2021. The franchise has also reached the playoffs 11 times out of 12 seasons.

Aakash Chopra Praises ‘Phenomenal’ Chennai Super Kings For Successful IPL 2022 Auction

Aakash Chopra believes the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were the standout franchise at the IPL 2022 auction.

CSK retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the mega auction. They bought 21 more players at the auction to complete their full-strength squad of 25.

Aakash Chopra Gives Chennai Super Kings 9/10 After Acing One More Auction

While reviewing the IPL 2022 auction in a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra was particularly delighted with CSK’s picks.

He elaborated: “The Chennai Super Kings is the team I have given the most marks. Chennai Super Kings 9/10. This team has aced one more auction. You see this team’s philosophy clearly, they are phenomenal. They got the complete squad – 25 players, and money was still left.”

The former India cricketer pointed out that MS Dhoni’s side stuck to their philosophy but were willing to spend wholeheartedly on Deepak Chahar. Pacer Deepak Chahar has been part of Chennai Super Kings since they made a return after a two-year suspension. He played a crucial part when CSK won the title twice in 2018 and 2021. In 4 seasons, he played 58 matches for the yellow army and picked 58 wickets with an economy of 7.70.

Aakash Chopra observed: “It is not that they have not spent the big bucks. When they had to spend 14 crores on Deepak Chahar, they did that as well. But despite that, what a squad they have prepared. I am thrilled.”

Aakash Chopra: CSK Have Plenty Of Options In Both Batting And Bowling Departments After Another Successful IPL 2022 Auctions

Aakash Chopra highlighted that CSK have plenty of options in the batting department with the inclusion of the likes of New Zealand opener Devon Conway.

He explained: “If you see the team, either Robin Uthappa or Devon Conway can open with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Moeen Ali will come after that, you will have Shivam Dube, Ambati Rayudu. If you want you can play Robin Uthappa down the order, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja.”

The reputed commentator concluded by saying that the defending champions are not short in the bowling department either with the inclusion of Chris Jordan, Mitchell Santner and Adam Milne as backup options.

Aakash Chopra elaborated: “In bowling, you have Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo – they have given themselves the option of Chris Jordan, Mitchell Santner as an option for Jaddu, they have Adam Milne with Chris Jordan as an option. They have Prashant Solanki and more spinners along with him.”

Apart from the aforementioned bowlers, CSK also have Maheesh Theekshana as a mystery spinner. Dwaine Pretorius is an additional all-rounder option in their squad.

Chennai Super Kings bought 21 players during IPL 2022 auction. Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa, Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner, and Shivam Dube were some of the popular players bought by CSK during the auction. CSK’s highest deal was Deepak Chahar for Rs. 14 crores.

Chennai Super Kings had an available salary purse of Rs. 48 crores during IPL 2021 auction. Ahead of the auction, the IPL 2021 champions spent Rs. 42 crores out of their 90 crores to retain 4 players in their squad. The four-time IPL champions retained Ravindra Jadeja for Rs. 16 crores, MS Dhoni for Rs. 12 crores, Moeen Ali for Rs. 8 crores, and Ruturaj Gaikwad for Rs. 6 crores.

Sunil Gavaskar Unable To Understand Why Venkatesh Iyer Didn’t Bowl A Single Over In 1st ODI Against Proteas

Sunil Gavaskar could not wrap his head around the fact that all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer was not given a single over to bowl by India captain KL Rahul during the first ODI against South Africa in Paarl on Wednesday.

With South Africa stitching a 200-plus-run partnership around centurions Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen, ODI debutant Venkatesh Iyer was not given the ball despite India’s bowlers not tasting any success.

In the team as an all-rounder, Venkatesh Iyer got the not ahead of Suryakumar Yadav. If the plan was for Venkatesh Iyer not to bowl, India opting for Suryakumar Yadav ahead of him could have been a better option.

Sunil Gavaskar: Venkatesh Iyer Could Have Broken Partnership As Oppositions Didn’t Know Much About The ODI Debutant All-Rounder

Puzzled by this move, Sunil Gavaskar reckons a bowler like Venkatesh Iyer, whom teams haven’t seen much of, could have helped India break the massive partnership between Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen and allowed India to come back into the game.

“Only the captain has the answer as to why Venkatesh wasn’t bowled even once. He is a new player who has just made a name for himself in the last 4-5 months. That is why he is in the Indian team. But oppositions don’t know much about him. And when such a scenario arises, giving a couple of overs will allow the batters to know him,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

Venkatesh Iyer (Getty)

“And sometimes, that rhythm with which the batters are playing can also break. Had he given an over, something else could have happened. He could have given away 20-25 runs but at least it would have been something different,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

Debutant Venkatesh Iyer was not utilized for his bowling ability, raising question marks over his presence as an additional bowling option.

Sunil Gavaskar: Shivam Dube Also Didn’t Get Much Chances And Encouragement Before Being Dropped

Failing to understand the head and toe of the decision, Sunil Gavaskar added that something similar happened with Shivam Dube. Shivam Dube made his India debut in a T20I against Bangladesh in November 2019. Till now he has played 13 T20Is in which he has slammed a half-century and has best bowling figures of 3/30. Apart from that, he has also played an ODI against the West Indies in 2019.

Although in the press conference, India batter Shikhar Dhawan explained why Venkatesh Iyer wasn’t asked to bowl, saying that the spinners bowled well in tandem but numbers throw up a contrasting story. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin combined to pick just 1 wicket for 106 runs as India managed to pick up only one wicket in the last 32 overs of the South African innings.

Shivam Dube. Image Credits: Twitter
Shivam Dube. Image Credits: Twitter

“I can’t understand. Whenever a partnership is flourishing, a bowler whom the opposition hasn’t ever faced, could be a good choice. Something similar happened with Shivam Dube. He too did not get the chances and encouragement that he should have. What is the reason behind it is something that might be answered in the press conference? What planning, what strategy was it that you didn’t even give him a single over,” Sunil Gavaskar pointed out.

Venkatesh Iyer didn’t get a chance to roll his arm over as the proteas posted the total of 296/4 and also as he got a chance to bat, he was caught in the deep against a short ball at his individual score of 2 and India eventually fell short by 31 runs.

Venkatesh Iyer, the opening batsman, and pacer had a sensational run in the UAE leg of IPL 2021 by amassing 370 runs in just 10 games. From taking to the IPL 2021 by storm to getting to make his T20I debut for India, things have come thick and fast for Venkatesh Iyer.

All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer got his maiden ODI call for the upcoming South Africa series. Venkatesh Iyer made his international debut against New Zealand last month in T20Is.  The all-rounder played all 3 T20Is at home against 2021 T20I WC runners up New Zealand, scored 36 runs, and picked a solitary scalp.

Arjun Tendulkar Included In Mumbai Ranji Trophy Squad Keeping Future In Mind: Salil Ankola

Salil Ankola, the Mumbai Cricket Association chief of selector has said the inclusion of Arjun Tendulkar among others in the Ranji squad announced on Wednesday has been done keeping the future in mind.

Arjun Tendulkar, son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, is part of the 20-member squad, led by Prithvi Shaw, for Mumbai’s first two Ranji matches against Maharashtra and Delhi.

Salil Ankola : Arjun Tendulkar Has Been Bowling Well

Salil Ankola said Arjun Tendulkar has been bowling well in the games he has played after recovering from an injury. Arjun Tendulkar had played just two games and had returned figures of 1/34 and 1/33 in those two outings. He also had received an IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians but didn’t play even a single game. Arjun Tendulkar was bought at his base price of Rs 20 lakh by IPL 2020 champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL Auction 2021 in Chennai.

“Arjun (Tendulkar) has been bowling well, unfortunately, he was injured in between but he did well in whatever games he played thereafter. We have picked a team looking at the future of Mumbai cricket,” Salil Ankola said.

He added, “Unfortunately Tushar Deshpande, our seamer, is injured but it’s a promising team. It’s a mixed team where we have picked players from under-19 and also who have been part of the Mumbai team for a few years.”

The Ranji Trophy gets underway from January 13. Salil Ankola said Arjun Tendulkar “has been bowling well” after recovering from an unfortunate injury and the team has been picked “looking at the future of Mumbai cricket.” Mumbai will begin their campaign against Maharashtra on January 13 and both their matches against Maharashtra and Delhi are in Kolkata as this year the tournament is being played in neutral venues.

Salil Ankola: Players From Under 19 Have Performed For Senior Team As Well

Salil Ankola said the team is a good mixture of young and senior players and is hopeful of a good season. Mumbai finished third in their pool during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and finished last in Group B of Vijay Hazare Trophy this season.

Chief selector Salil Ankola backed Prithvi Shaw for the leadership role. The 22-year old led Mumbai to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season as he scored 827 runs with an average of 165.40 and strike rate of 138.29.

“There are a few young players like Prince Badiani, who did well in under 19 for us. We wanted to promote them and see how they do on the big stage. What we have seen is the players coming from under 19 have performed for the senior men team too. We are hopeful that the team will do well going ahead,” Salil Ankola said.

Arjun Tendulkar, who has played two T20s for the senior Mumbai team, is yet to feature in the Ranji Trophy, which did not take place last year due to COVID-19 restrictions. Mumbai will be led by India opener Prithvi Shaw. The team, however, will miss important players like pacer Tushar Deshpande – out with an injury and Suryakumar Yadav – likely to be included in India’s ODI squad for South Africa tour.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube are other notable names in the Mumbai squad. The Mumbai team had a disastrous white ball tourney as the team wasn’t able to qualify in Syed Mushtaq Ali and stood last in Group B of Vijay Hazare Trophy (50 overs).

Squad: Prithvi Shaw (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Aakarshit Gomel, Arman Jaffer, Sarfaraz Khan, Sachin Yadav, Aditya Tare (W.K.), Hardik Tamore (W.K.), Shivam Dube, Aman Khan, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Prashant Solanki, Shashank Attarde, Dhaval Kulkarni, Mohit Awasthi, Prince Badiani, Siddharth Raut, Roystan Dias, Arjun Tendulkar.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Orthodox Shots Should Be Followed By Budding Cricketers Aspiring To Play All 3 Formats: Deep Dasgupta

Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) century during the Saturday of Chennai Super Kings’ defeat to Rajasthan Royals in their IPL 2021 clash.

Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta praised the youngster’s brilliant unbeaten 101 off 60 balls and said that it was a great sign for more classical batsmen and said his innings proved that the shortest format of the game was not just for power-hitters.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Played Orthodox Shots Which Budding Cricketers Aspiring Should follow To Play All 3 Formats: Deep Dasgupta

Ruturaj Gaikwad reached his century on the last ball of the CSK innings by smacking his fifth six and finishing with an unbeaten 101. The right-handed batsman’s 60-ball ton propelled the Chennai Super Kings to 189/4 in stipulated 20 overs and earned him the orange cap for being the leading run-scorer in the league ahead of veterans KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Deep Dasgupta said on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s century: “It just tells you that this format is not only for power hitters. If you have the right technique and you know your game well enough, there are different ways of being successful in this format. And if you look at Ruturaj and the shots that he played, they are very orthodox cricketing shots.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Deep Dasgupta noted that Ruturaj Gaikwad is a great exponent for orthodox batting, which will stand players in good stead in all three formats.

Deep Dasgupta added: “I guess success to batters like Ruturaj Gaikwad is that much more important because when you go to these coaching camps and look at youngsters, they are trying all these fancy shots, the lap and the reverse-lap and all. Then you see someone like Ruturaj, it’s like this is how you should be playing, because this would make sure that you’re not only successful in T20s but the other two formats as well.”

West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite also praised how Ruturaj Gaikwad constructed his innings, scoring 30 runs off his first 30 deliveries and 71 of his next 30.

Carlos Brathwaite said,  “What was impressive is that in his first 30 balls, he was on 30. So going at run-a-ball just in and outside the powerplay, but then to have the confidence in your ability to step your game up.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s fine 101* helped CSK post 189 runs, which was the highest total in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. He had some support from Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali. Ravindra Jadeja then came in to provide ample firepower at the death with a 15-ball 32.

Shivam Dube scored an unbeaten 64 off only 42 balls, studded with four boundaries and as many sixes. However, the defeat did not hurt CSK too much, as they had become the first team to secure a spot in the playoffs in IPL 2021.

IPL 2021: Salman Butt Impressed By Centurion Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Game Awareness

Salman Butt, the former tainted Pakistan opener, was in awe of Chennai Super Kings sensation opener Ruturaj Gaikwad following his maiden T20 hundred. Ruturaj Gaikwad lit up Abu Dhabi on Saturday by scoring a scintillating ton against the Rajasthan Royals, but his unbeaten 101 went in vain.

Ruturaj Gaikwad reached his century on the last ball of the innings by smacking his fifth six and finishing with an unbeaten 101. The right-handed batsman’s 60-ball ton propelled the Chennai Super Kings to 189/4 in stipulated 20 overs and earned him the orange cap.

Salman Butt: Ruturaj Gaikwad Is A Natural Talent, And His Game Awareness Is Outstanding

Salman Butt hailed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s game awareness and his ability to combat pressure. Salman Butt feels the youngster’s game is simple and risk-free as he avoids reckless shots and sets himself up before unleashing carnage.

“Ruturaj Gaikwad is a natural talent. But the mental and technical development and the game awareness is outstanding as he absorbs the pressure during difficult phases. There are players if they don’t hit boundaries for 3-4 deliveries, they begin taking a risk or play reckless shots.

“But Ruturaj Gaikwad is different as he puts away the bad balls and doesn’t come under pressure if otherwise. When set, he starts converting the aerial shots from grounded ones,” said Salman Butt.

The 24-year old’s knock contained five sixes and seven fours; however, it went in vain. The Rajasthan Royals chased down 190 with more than two overs and seven wickets to spare. Shivam Dube top-scored with 64*.   Rajasthan Royals chased down a mammoth target of 190 runs against Chennai Super Kings as youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube took the 2008 Champions home with 15 balls to spare.

Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a maiden IPL ton in the first innings but still, it wasn’t enough for the 3-time champions to get them over the finishing line. 19-year old Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his maiden 50 in the run chase and played a brilliant inning under pressure.  Chennai and Delhi have already qualified for the playoffs, while Rajasthan is at the 6th spot with 10 points. 3rd placed RCB has 14 points while 4 teams- KKR, PBKS, RR, and MI have 10 points each.

Salman Butt: Ruturaj Gaikwad Plays Risk-Free Cricket

Salman Butt further claimed Ruturaj Gaikwad is amazing to watch and maintains a healthy strike rate despite playing risk-free cricket. The former Pakistan captain Salman Butt lauded the youngster for adapting well to the format and not playing slam-bang cricket.

“He is also beautiful to watch and is old school as compared to most modern-day players. Gaikwad struck at 160 to 170, but he plays risk-free cricket. Hence, it’s a great quality for a batsman to have the temperament in a T20 game by respecting the good balls and playing your shots when set.

“His adaptability in this format with a proper technique is outstanding and unlike most new players, Gaikwad plays proper cricketing shots,” said Salman Butt.

Brian Lara: Ruturaj Gaikwad Is In KL Rahul’s Category

Brian Lara said CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad proves that a batsman can score much-needed runs in T20 cricket with orthodox shots and it gives him great pleasure watching the CSK opener dominate the opposition with his silky gameplay.

“Yeah, he could have been 135 if he had got more strike in the end overs. But it was a complete show of batsmanship. That’s what I like about him, seeing how he put that innings together, how he surged in the second half of the innings. He was just tremendous to watch,” Brian Lara told Star Sports.

“He shows that you can play good cricket shots and still score big runs. And that’s what I am proud of as a batsman. It was just remarkable and unbelievable. I will put him now in the KL Rahul category,” Brian Lara said.

Ruturaj Gaikwad also bagged the Orange Cap from Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul, becoming the first batsman in IPL 2021 to get to 500 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad now has 508 runs in 12 matches at an average of over 50 and a strike rate over 140. But Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 50 and Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 64 saw Rajasthan reach 190 in the 18th over.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Carrying CSK’s Batting At The Moment: Ajit Agarkar

The 24-year-old grabbed the limelight in IPL 2020, providing CSK fans something to cheer for with three fifties in a season where the 3-time champions failed to qualify for the play-offs. He has grown from strength to strength, leading the CSK batting unit. Lauding the young opener, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar said Ruturaj Gaikwad is carrying the CSK batting unit on his shoulders in IPL 2021.

“He took a little bit of time to get his first 30 rims and after that, he just took off. For me, he has been the find for CSK in the last season and a half. He is improving with every game. He is carrying their batting at the moment. He needed 6 off the last two balls. He misses one and hits the last one, it’s incredible,” Agarkar said.
