Sasha Banks has become a free agent from the WWE on January 1, 2023, and subsequently, she managed to make a grand return in professional wrestling. Proving the speculations true, she showed up during the latest edition of Wrestle Kingdom and the current belief is that she will also be there in the latest upcoming edition of AEW Dynamite.
In one of the marquee matches of the evening, Saraya fka Paige in WWE will team up with a mystery partner against AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker on the January 11 episode of AEW Dynamite from the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Since Sasha banks is back in the pro-wrestling fold after a long time, she is being rumored to join Saraya in AEW.
“Mercedes Varnado (real name of Sasha Banks) will be Saraya’s partner next week in #AEWDynamite in LA against Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter.” reported DAZN’s Steven Muehlhausen. It was added by the source that the concerned “couldn’t announce or make a major hint due to her being still under contract to WWE until the beginning of 2023.”
Conflicts created regarding Sasha Banks’ AEW arrival
Followed by this report was an interview session, a backstage interview segment aired with Baker and Hayter on AEW Dynamite” where Baker referred to herself as The Boss (Sasha Banks’ nickname in WWE) as she was hyping up the big tag team match. Even the six-time former WE Women’s Champion herself stated in the Wrestle Kingdom backstage press conference, that Japan is just the first stop on her “world domination tour.”
Things became more confusing after a pre-recorded backstage interview conducted by Renee Paquette where Saraya told Toni Storm and Hikaru Shida that Storm would be her partner next week. Both Shida and Paquette were left confused as if they were not impressed with the announcement, suggesting that there’s more to come to the storyline.
That being said, Sasha Banks is still heavily speculated to make it to California for the packed January 11 episode. She made her debut in NJPW and also the partner promotion STARDOM on Wednesday by attacking and challenging IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI (the former Kairi Sane in WWE) after her successful defense against Tam Nakano. Since NJPW remains a close partner of AEW, Sasha’s arrival still seems a no-brainer.
