Backstage News On Bayley Suffering Devastating Knee Injury

As if Smackdown Women’s Division wasn’t already dealing with lack of star power, a former champion in Bayley was removed from the scene for a long time. She suffered an injury and will be out of action for approximately nine months.

WWE revealed the news prior to Smackdown, this week noting that she suffered the injury while training for her upcoming title match at WWE Money In The Bank against SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair.

WWE never mentioned the exact type of injury that Bayley has been dealing with except for the fact that she can’t compete in the scheduled I Quit match against Bianca Belair. Later, multiple sources like PWInsider and Fightful Select reported that she suffered a torn ACL. The injury reportedly occurred at the WWE Performance Center earlier this week as she was training with another wrestler for her upcoming title match.

A torn ACL generally takes 6-9 months of time to get recovered. Top stars like Edge, Seth Rollins, and many more have dealt with similar issues in the past and they had to miss a significant time out of the ring before coming back to action.

Reports from the source noted that Bayley’s “knee popped” while training in the ring. The injury was described as a freak accident that happened while chain wrestling with another unknown WWE star. The Role Model and that other wrestler were reportedly participating in the mandatory training sessions that were set up so as WWE Superstars were gearing up for the return of the company to their touring schedule on the road.

There’ve also been talks that Bayley’s injury may have caused plans to change for new incoming talent from NXT. WWE aired vignettes around Toni Storm, this week confirming that her main roster debut will eventually happen although no definite debut date was provided.

Bayley did help to carry the WWE during the Thunderdome era, this past pandemic era. Those were the most difficult times in the company as she also became the longest-reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion in history. She was also known to be easy to deal with, no matter how much more they have asked from her.

WWE announced earlier than SmackDown that Sonya Deville would be announcing a “suitable replacement” for Bayley at Money in the Bank, but that match was eventually scrapped out. Deville then announced Carmella vs. Belair will go down on next Friday’s live SmackDown in Houston, Texas. Liv Morgan also interrupted Deville to claim her spot in the 2021 Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
