WrestleMania 39 is in the history books and Charlotte Flair was an important part of the show as usual. WWE called for two main events for two separate nights. In one of those matches, the main event of Night Two had seen Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Being the Men’s Royal Rumble winner, WWE wasn’t taking away Cody’s spotlight by no means.
This is the same logic that Charlotte Flair should have also received the spotlight on Wrestlemania 39 main event on Night One since the women’s Royal Rumble match winner was challenging her for the Smackdown Women’s Title. But ultimately, The Usos vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the undisputed WWE tag team championships captured the spotlight.

The fact that WWE snubbed Charlotte Flair from her deserved main event spot, made her father Ric Flair irate. On his podcast, Ric discussed WWE’s decision to “break tradition” at WrestleMania 39 Night One and let the WWE tag team title match close the show instead of the anticipated singles blue brand women’s title match.

Charlotte Flair was involved in a match with a Rumble winner
The Naitch questioned the logic of pushing away the match from the main event spotlight despite a Rumble match winner involved in it. He agreed that it was not a good idea for the tag team match between Sami and KO and The Usos to overshadow Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley. The two-time WWE Hall of Famer sounded legit unhappy about WWE breaking the tradition,
“We’re talking about what I think should personally happen in the promotion. There’s no way that Sami and KO and The Usos would go on after Ashley [Charlotte] and Rhea, no way. Only in the WWE. [Conrad says that he thinks that The Usos vs. KO and Sami had the better story] That’s not the point. We’re talking about a single Championship from a girl that won the Royal Rumble. Why are we just breaking tradition just for one [night], for what? Why are we breaking tradition for one night?”
Interestingly, WWE aired a promotional clip featuring Rhea Ripley for Wrestlemania 39 where she was encouraged by John Cena’s voice for the main event spot which led the fans to believe that she and Charlotte Flair will be kept under the marquee spotlight which wasn’t the case. Despite the match placement, the two women did put up a solid matchup.
