Deonna Purrazzo has long been rumored to arrive at AEW and that will finally be happening with the very next episode of Dynamite. AEW has acquired the Ring of Honor promotion where the female superstar has been the women’s champion since last year’s fall and hence, she will now have to defend it on AEW TV.

A clash between the original and interim ROH Women’s Champions Deonna Purrazzo and Mercedez Martinez has been confirmed for the May 4 episode of AEW Dynamite. The two women will have a one-on-one match to settle their rivalry and determine who the undisputed ROH Women’s Champion will be, moving forward.

Deonna Purrazzo was eager to have a crossover with AEW

Ever since ROH was acquired by Tony Khan, Deonna Purrazzo has been teasing her arrival on AEW TV and she must be really happy to see that become a reality. In the fall of 2021, she also explained why she was eager to wrestle or form a tag team with Dr. Britt Baker, her best friend in real life and one of the top female superstars in AEW.

“To have that crossover with women and possibly wrestle someone like Britt or tag with someone like Britt, who is my best friend in real life,” Deonna Purrazzo told Busted Open Radio. “It would just be very special for us, I think as friends, but for women’s wrestling too. And that’s the whole point of all this. It’s to grow and evolve women’s wrestling. We haven’t had a lot of those firsts yet, so any time you can kind of get your hands on that and claim it as your own, I think it’s important these days.”

In a media scrum following the ROH SuperCard of Honor event, Tony Khan reflected on the situation between Deonna Purrazzo and Mercedez Martinez. The AEW head-honcho was not sure about Deonna Purrazzo possibly coming to the AEW to defend her ROH Title and this was the reason why he opted to have an interim champion in Martinez.

At present, Deonna Purrazzo is reportedly under a long-term deal with the Impact Wrestling promotion. She recently lost the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship to Taya Valkyrie at Impact Rebellion pay-per-view, last month.
