All Elite Wrestling has now announced an Eliminator Series to crown a brand new world champion for their promotion. Just five nights after winning the AEW World Championship at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view in Las Vegas, Nevada, CM Punk announced during this past Friday’s AEW Rampage that he has an injury that will require surgery to fix things.
This led to him vacating the world title to give opportunities to the younger superstars of the roster. Later, it was clarified that he hasn’t vacated the title but rather an interim champion will be crowned who will later face Punk for the undisputed AEW World Title.

A battle royal will be held on this coming Wednesday’s Dynamite with the winner advancing to face the number-one contender Jon Moxley later that same night. The winner of that match will compete for the interim AEW World Championship at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 26. Now, an elaboration of this entire crowning process has been announced by AEW as they confirmed an Eliminator Series.
Further details of AEW Eliminator Series to crown new champion
Apart from the above-mentioned two matches, two more matches will be involved in the Eliminator Series as noted below,
* Meanwhile, on June 12, at New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s (“NJPW”) DOMINION event from the historic Osaka Jo-Hall, highly decorated NJPW stars and long-time rivals Hiroshi Tanahashi and Hirooki Goto will face off in an Eliminator Match for the Interim AEW World Championship, with the winner also advancing to FORBIDDEN DOOR on June 26, live on pay-per-view.
* The winner of AEW’s June 8 Eliminator Match will face the winner of NJPW’s June 12 Tanahashi vs Goto Eliminator Match in the main event of FORBIDDEN DOOR on June 26, to crown the Interim AEW World Champion.
It was added that after AEW World Champion CM Punk is medically cleared to compete, the winner of the AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series will face Punk in an AEW World Championship Unification Match. So, Punk will get an opportunity to reclaim his top spot just after he comes back on AEW TV.
There’s nothing in detail was informed regarding CM Punk’s injury as he just referred to the situation as just “a bump in the road during his promo on Rampage. The assumption is that the injury occurred during a six-man tag team match where Punk and FTR defeated Max Caster and The Gunn Club on this past edition of Dynamite. Now Eliminator Series is coming up to bring a replacement for him.
