FOX Not Happy With ‘Big Dog’ Segment On Roman Reigns From WWE Smackdown
WWE is always referred to as a sports entertainment brand that may be leading the company to a conflict with FOX. (The current platform which hosts Friday Night SmackDown)
They want to bring a sports-feel to the show whereas WWE continues to host a segment that has the entertainment-feel intact.
The opening segment of SmackDown continued the feud between King Corbin and Roman Reigns. The 2019 King of the Ring winner was out to talk trash about the franchise player of the company.
Soon, Reigns’ music hit as we saw some animated characters appearing on the titantron. Moments later, Corbin brought out a “Big Dog” (a man dressed as a dog) to mock “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns.
Some of the fans may have liked the idea of seeing this segment which had a fresh feel attached to it.
However, According to Brad Shepard, FOX officials weren’t impressed with this segment on SmackDown.
They prefer compact storylines or matches on the show rather than such joking angles that have typical WWE vibes into it,
“According to a source, there are people at FOX who were not amused by the dog segment on SmackDown. The source hopes this eventually translates into pressure on WWE to put on a better TV show.”
The good thing for the WWE creative team is that they were able to make The Boss happy putting up this segment.
According to Wrestlingnews.co, Vince McMahon was happy with The Big Dog parody.
The writing team came up with the idea to impress Vince McMahon, as he loves segments like this. It eventually ensures that their jobs are safe,
“Remember, the writers are trying to make Vince happy. If he’s happy then it means that jobs are safe.
Vince has always been a fan of segments that parody his wrestlers. As long as Vince is around, you will always see segments like that one.”
This segment on SmackDown may have also marked the beginning of the rumored Dog Collar match culmination at WWE TLC. But if the FOX officials have complaints about it then WWE may scrap the plans.
