WWE Legend Goldberg has never been a regular performer in the WWE since his miraculous return in the year 2016 as WWE made him a marquee name like Brock Lesnar. In the process, he was allowed to capture a lot of money by performing in some mega matches in bigger pay-per-view matches at WrestleMania, SummerSlam, or Saudi Arabia events.
The fact that Goldberg easily made a lot of money during his short WWE run, rightly calls him to feature in some more matches in the name of a retirement tour in which the company is reportedly not that much interested. According to the recent reports, the 2018 WWE Hall of Famer had the opportunity to pull in a whopping $2 million amount, per match for his matches in Saudi Arabia when he was signed to WWE.
Goldberg Irate Over WWE Not Arranging Him A Proper Retirement Match
However, that contract has run out and he’s being considered as a free agent for the time being. Goldberg’s last match with the WWE was against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in 2022 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia after which he had to undergo shoulder surgery. Due to this, there have been a lot of talks about his retirement from professional wrestling.
AEW can’t offer Saudi Arabia-kind money to Goldberg for a single match
However, the wrestler himself stated that he wants to feature in a retirement match in the WWE. If that’s not the case then he might arrange a short retirement tour before hanging up his boots forever. Dave Meltzer discussed the current situation of Goldberg on Wrestling Observer Newsletter by stating that AEW President Tony Khan might love to bring the former WCW Legend under his banner.
But then it was also noted in the report that he received a $2 million fee, per match for each of his Saudi Arabia matches which won’t be cost-effective for AEW.
“A self-done tour sounds great but between the costs of doing it right and the lack of visibility if it’s not in WWE or AEW, it would end up being a disappointment,” said Meltzer. “My gut is that Tony Khan would love to do it, although the Sting retirement has to be his priority for this year.”
Goldberg had been one of the original stars to be produced by the WCW in the past who debuted in WWE in 2003. Down the road, he captured the World Heavyweight Championship before his quick exit in 2004 after WrestleMania XX. After 12 long years, he returned in 2016 to wrestle in a handful of matches, each year. In the process, he was able to become a two-time WWE Universal Champion.
