ToggleGUNTHER kicked off The Road To WrestleMania with a bang at Royal Rumble 2023 by pulling off a performance that’s almost impossible to break in the future. It genuinely shows that WWE has big plans with the UK Star and his main roster stint, so far further proves the fact.
Gunther made records on NXT UK
Soon after getting on board with the WWE NXT UK brand, the 35-year-old talent would go on to become a top talent who had the longest title reign in the now-extinct brand’s history. That being said, he’s no stranger to making and breaking records and he now has added another accolade via his ongoing championship run.

The IC Title held by Gunther since June
Over on Instagram, WWE announced that the current WWE Intercontinental Champion set a new record and that’s becoming the longest-reigning title-holder of this century with this particular belt,
“GUNTHER now holds the record for the longest Intercontinental Title reign of the 21st century.”
Starting from June 2022, GUNTHER has now held the WWE Intercontinental Title for 245 days. Back then he defeated Ricochet to become the new champion against whom he also defended the title, twice, thereafter.

As the title reign continues, the leader of the Imperium faction surpassed Shelton Benjamin, who previously held the record for the longest Intercontinental Title reign of the 21st century with his 244-day reign that lasted from October 2004 to May 2005. The likes of Cody Rhodes (233 days), Randy Orton (209 days), and Shinsuke Nakamura (201 days) also held the IC Title for over 200 days since 2000.
GUNTHER has also proved to have been the most dominant mid-card champion in recent times via his ongoing title reign, having successfully defended the Intercontinental Title seven times since winning it.
Gunther has been a dominant champion
His latest title match defense came against Braun Strowman whom he defeated on the January 13 episode of SmackDown. Next, the champion will defend his title against the winner of a Fatal-4-Way on Smackdown and then possibly at WrestleMania 39 in a triple threat, against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre.
Also, at the 2023 Royal Rumble, GUNTHER lasted for one hour and 11 minutes before becoming the last elimination from the Men’s Rumble Match by the eventual winner Cody Rhodes. Thus, he broke Rey Mysterio’s earlier record of lasting in a Rumble match for an hour.
