WWE releasing Braun Strowman was one of the most unbelievable incidents of this year. While the company was always expected to release tons of superstars due to COVID-19 budget cuts (which they did), this behemoth name was one of the original products of the banner. Hence, he was never among the speculated names to be released. Besides, WWE still using him in the main event scene, days before the let-go happened.
Reports claimed that the $1.2 million per year contract appeared to be fatal for Braun Strowman as WWE was in an attempt to clear a huge budget. He was not the only high-dollar contract to be trimmed since Lana was released because of her big payday. Unlike the Ravishing Russian, there are rumors that WWE could be interested in bringing back the former Universal Champion, in a lower contract, obviously.
Update On Braun Strowman Heading To AEW/Impact After WWE Release

Ringside News provided an update about the rumor concerning the former top WWE Superstar making his possible return. They were told by a tenured member of the team that “if WWE made any offer to Braun Strowman, he would be back in the fold immediately.” Since that has not happened, no efforts have been made on WWE’s part in recent times.
“We keep getting asked about Braun Strowman’s situation. Here is all we know. WWE has no interest in having him back. We were told if it was going to happen then he would be back in the fold already. His non-compete clause is over and WWE isn’t interested in having him back,” the source noted.

Since the 90-day no-compete clause attached to the Monster Among Men is over, he is likely to be moving ahead to his next destination. He’s come back to action in an indie wrestling match against EC3 and that should only be the beginning of his post-WWE career.
Braun Strowman has an interest in Impact Wrestling and that seems to be the most likely future for him. There have been some brief talks with AEW, but it didn’t go anywhere. The source added that the superstar’s representatives informed them that they “have had” talks with WWE since his release, but those talks may have come to an end. Plus, future plans around his future will soon be revealed.
