Roman Reigns has been the most dominant force in the WWE since after as the Universal Championship at last year’s Payback PPV. He defeated Braun Strowman and The Fiend Bray Wyatt in a Triple Threat to gain the title and move on to a completely different zone where he can claim himself to be untouchable. Since then he has been gone through successful title defenses against the likes of Braun Strowman, Jey Uso, Kevin Owens, Edge, Daniel Bryan, and Cesaro to remain the champion.
After his last successful title defense against Cesaro at Wrestlemania Backlash, the question remains who’d be the next opponent for Roman Reigns at Hell in a Cell. His cousin Jimmy Uso made his return to Friday Night Smackdown, last month and unlike his brother Jey Uso, he refused to bow down to him. After weeks of altercations between the two, the assumption was that WWE was perhaps building a feud between the two.
Roman Reigns vs Jey Uso not happening?
As a result, there were rumors that his next challenger for the Universal Championship at WWE Hell In A Cell 2021 PPV would be Jimmy Uso, similar to how Jey Uso challenged him at last year’s Hell In A Cell event. But now the rumor killer has arrived via a report by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It mentioned that Roman Reigns vs. Jimmy Uso is currently not planned for the WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view.
“The Roman Reigns main issue seems to be with Jimmy Uso but we are told that match is not scheduled for the PPV.”
This leaves us wondering who should be challenging the champion, next. Cesaro could have been an option as he was willing to receive a rematch but Seth Rollins renewed his feud against the Swiss Superman almost confirming that a match between the two will go down at Hell in a Cell 2021.
So that leaves the number-one contender’s spot for the Universal Championship, vacant, for the time being. In the meantime, Jimmy and Jey will be gunning for the Smackdown tag team titles, this week when they compete against the Mysterios with the belts hanging in the balance. Roman Reigns has issues with this match and he will be watching, closely which might leave some fallout.
